Jeff Hyland, the co-founder of Hilton & Hyland and a giant in the luxury real estate business, has died. He was 75. Hyland sold homes to top-level celebrities, including LeBron James. The company, credited with billions of dollars in residential real estate sales since its inception in 1993.

Former chairman and CEO of PPG Industries, Vin Sarni, has died aged 93.  Sarni, for a time, also served as chairman of the board for the Pittsburgh Pirates and is given a lot of credit for keeping them in Pittsburgh.

Sir William Lithgow, 2nd Baronet (wiki), Scottish industrialist, dead at 87. Inherited Lithgows, the shipbuilding giant in 1952, which was founded by his grandfather.

Fought the Treasury during the 60s and 70s over their shipbuilding policies. Lived in both Scotland and Western Australia in retirement.

CEO and founder of Western Cape-based financial services company HGG, Hendrik Gerryts, has died.  According to a statement from his company, Gerryts was found dead in Hermanus on Friday, a day after he went missing.  Western Cape police said they had no reason to believe that foul play was a factor in his death. 

They said a post-mortem and preliminary investigations would dictate which direction the case went in.

Charles Entenmann, who propelled his family’s New York bakery into a national brand, died in Florida last month at the age of 92.

Entenmann, his brothers and mother expanded the Bay Shore business across the region and eventually the country, following the 1951 death of his father William Entenmann, a German immigrant who opened the bakery in Brooklyn in 1898.

His family sold its cakes-and-cookies enterprise for $233 million in 1978, which is more than a billion dollars in today’s money.

Marilyn Miglin, a noted Chicago luxury beauty products entrepreneur and Home Shopping Network presenter, has died. She was 83. Miglin's husband, real estate mogul Lee Miglin, was murdered in 1997 by Andrew Cunanan, the same man responsible for the murder of Gianni Versace.

Longtime Centene leader Michael Neidorff, a pillar of the St. Louis business community, has died, the company confirmed on Thursday.

Neidorff led the Clayton-based health insurance company for 26 years, growing it into a behemoth in the managed care industry. Under his leadership, Centene has become a major philanthropic donor in the region, as has Neidorff personally.

Neidorff had intended to retire from the company this year. He had been on a medical leave of absence from the company for six weeks.

Houston real estate pioneer Martha Turner has died at the age of 81, according to the firm she founded. 

One of the most recognized names in real estate, the East Texas native is being remembered as a powerhouse in the industry who mentored hundreds of real estate professionals. 

Turner started her business from scratch in 1981 and grew it to a $2 billion a year real estate firm with dozens of agents, according to the Houston Business Journal.

Former IIHS president (2006-2017) Adrian Lund was hit by a wrong way driver and rolled over at 60 mph. The other driver was killed but Lund survived with minor injuries. The 2017 BMW 5 Series has a "Good" IIHS rating.

In the 20-plus years of his company’s existence, Fuad El-Hibri built up a manufacturing constant that gained the trust of the US government with just a single product.

El-Hibri died on April 23 at the age of 64, just weeks after stepping down as the chairman of Emergent’s board. A family representative told the New York Times that El-Hibri died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

 

Just no way of knowing when some of these folks are going to go quickly without more info. I’m certain he was on a few radars after stepping down with PC but you’d think about a year maybe not a month.
