I'm not sure how that's a U-turn since they never expressly said they were implementing it in the first place.

So far as I'm aware they've simply said they're not ruling any measure out that hadn't been previously (i.e. income tax, VAT and NI)

 

Further, since they've already got a good deal of bad press over the cessation of Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners I'd imagine that whacking all solo pensioners for another 500 quid a year (based on a 2k average council tax) is not going to look pretty (this only my opinion)

There are numerous examples of media outfits asking if something is going to happen on the basis that a non-commital answer implies its a possibility or even probability, this creates news when there is none.

 

I scan The Guardian (as the only 'broadsheet' available freely now) and ask of each article "Is this news? Or woulda/coulda/shoulda?" You may be surprised at the number of articles that are the latter even when not marked as 'opinion'.

If Crem had just stuck to "the Torygraph are reporting that the council tax reduction will stay" or words to that effect, it would have been fine. It was the addition of his U-turn spin that was irritating (at the very least). It's a habit he can't seem to break, and just rubs people up the wrong way.

Starmer needs to get a grip here as this is starting to spiral out of control.

 

However when it comes to Duffield, I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did in Labour: in the last parliament she made no secret of her troubled relationship with the party (whether or not her own views are right), openly said once she was considering her position in the party and repeatedly said Starmer was ignoring her. After Corbyn and his loyalists if someone was going to jump ship it was going to be her.

Is there anybody in the world surprised that Rosie Duffield has quit the Labour Party? A ticking timebomb for at least 2 years. Doing so at a time of peak weakness. How ever much the left froth and the right shout and scream, Sir Keir has a majority of more than 160, he can largely do what he likes. I would appreciate it if he could clean his act up though, stop the amateur mistakes and crack on with solving some of the issues this country faces. Lots of words and plans but not a lot of action yet (I know that's not all his fault, summer then conference season - just imagine if Rishi had called the election in May like he was meant to!) and plenty of pain but not much in the way of rewards. All this nonsense is taking up the room because there's nothing else to talk about. Let's see some practical steps that sure up the finances, make people feel more confident and start to move the country in the right direction. No problem with him taking executive tickets at Arsenal, fully understand the security risks and he's had a season ticket for years. The clothes and stuff is a trickier issue, some of it is a storm in a teacup (Angela Rayner in NYC) but the clothes gifts are awkward when he's so personally wealthy. That said, the double standards from the Tories on this is incredible - do they remember their saviour Boris?

I cannot recall a post that is so full of shit that it makes our rivers and seas look positively clean. If people cannot tell the difference between legality and morality then we are all fucked. Not only are the policies of this government utterly wank  ( see Ed Milliband as a prime example of being a thick cunt pushing policy ) they are a bunch of gift receiving grifting bastards that have NO excuses whatsoever when they were calling out the previous wank regime for having their noses in the trough. Seriously, what fucking planet do people live on when they believe that there is a crumb of mitigation in what Starmer, et, al, have done, taking money and gifts, personally, from a shifty cunt like Lord Ali.
