He will mean bugger all to everybody else but to the residents of a Norfolk town he was a legend.

A drunk and high charismatic Portland homeless leader who left town in disgrace but gained a reputation for effectively working on the national level has died.

Michael Stoops passed away early Monday morning, after a long period of poor health. Stoops suffered a stroke in June 2015 while working for the National Coalition for the Homeless, which he helped found.

Stoops had the same name as the places he used to sleep.

A well-known homeless man who had a cheeky smile and lovable nature died on a bench in an Auckland cemetery.

Keith Johnson, aged 57, died on the same bench he had sat on most days for the past four years in St Peter's cemetery in Onehunga on July 1.

A relatively lengthy write-up actually.

A man in California has died after getting stuck in a clothes donation box.

A few people believe they have seen the man at the box before, taking clothes and collecting bottles and cans on the streets.

He will remain nameless but the story was worth posting for comic relief.

Mildred Fishman Gardiner, a roving photographer who spent decades wandering North Beach (San Fran area) taking Polaroids of people in cafes and restaurants, died Thursday at San Francisco’s Laguna Honda Hospital. She was 94.  For more than 60 years, “Millie,” as everyone knew her, was as much a part of the North Beach fabric as Gino & Carlo, the bar on Green Street, or SS Peter and Paul Church on Washington Square.  She was around for so long and such a part of the streetscape that it seemed she had always been there.

Kevin Short, known as Hollywood Jesus, has died aged 57. The Independent featured him in a profile back in 2016.

Kevin Short, also known as Kevin Lee Light..........

Not homeless -- but eccentric, so that'll have to be enough.

Arthur “Mr. Okra” Robinson was a roving produce vendor, traveling the neighborhood streets of New Orleans in a heavily-customized pickup truck and using a loudspeaker to sing the praises of his oranges and bananas, his avocados and, of course, his okra.  Robinson died Thursday (Feb. 15). He was 75. His death was confirmed by his stepson Teddy Stansberry. His family said he died at home of natural causes.

Are people dedicated to collecting something over a lifetime 'eccentric' enough for this thread?  If not, please advise and move to the appropriate one.

Jack DeVries, a veteran Bellingham (WA) retailer and collector of all things bicycling, died Tuesday, Sept. 11. He was 83.

A onetime bicycle newspaper delivery boy, DeVries began his career in the bike industry working for Times Bicycle Shop in Bellingham in 1950 at age 16. In 1969, he opened his own shop in town, Jack’s Bicycle Center. The shop moved to its current location in 1995.   DeVries exited the business in 2011 due to declining health.  He passed away at Pacifica Senior Living in Peoria, Arizona, after a series of health issues, including a heart attack, two strokes and a hip fracture that required him to use a wheelchair.
Jack was just as passionate about collecting cycling memorabilia. “Our old shop (pre-1995) was an old-time shop where you had everything stuffed into a shop that you could. There were a ton of antique bikes on the walls and ceiling,” son Kent recalled. “And his house from ’74 until he moved down to Arizona was nothing but bicycle stuff. Literally every nook and cranny you could see in the place."

Truck inhabiting, eccentric Bigfoot spotter of Washington State, Ed Waterman, has been found dead on his 54th birthday.

Mr Waterman invited strong criticism, even from fellow cryptozoologists, due to his habit of insisting that he could see Bigfoot in his forest photographs that others recognised as tree stumps, or other straightforward woodland features.

Quote

He claims to see dozens of clans of Sasquatch every time he takes a casual stroll through the woods.

Some examples of our intrepid discoverer's work below.  :rip:

An unnamed homeless bloke has been found dead in Evington Park, Leicester by a dog walker.

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/dog-walker-finds-body-homeless-2636071

Doing a bit of digging I found that the U.K. Government's Office for National Statistics estimate that there were 597 deaths of homeless people in England and Wales in 2017.

As someone who was homeless for a decade or so, and I don't mean sofa surfing, hanging round cash points, annoying folk etc, those statistics mean fuck all.

Worked the while time, not a lot of sympathy from me.

John Treagood, one of the last dwellers of a horse-drawn caravan and a familiar sight in Devon for at least thirty years, has apparently died.

A very intelligent man - the story goes that he was a lecturer at Leeds University in the 1970s before walking out for his lunch break one day, never to return.

Arthur Fillbrunn spent over two decades hustling on the streets of downtown Ann Arbor, MI.

Many in the community knew him simply as Arthur, and many who didn’t at least knew the sound of his crutch clanking down the sidewalk and the usual refrain of his scratchy voice.  Ann Arbor’s most prolific and well-known panhandler — and in some ways, a man of mystery — died Feb. 25 following a stroke.

He was 66.

Right up there with most quirky, iconic street characters of Ann Arbor’s past, like Shakey Jake and Spooner, Fillbrunn was a fixture downtown, often roaming the Main Street area.  Regulars at Old Town Tavern raised their glasses in honor of Fillbrunn on Friday, Feb. 28, as they took turns remembering and sharing stories of the New Yorker who came to Ann Arbor in the 1990s and made it his home.
