Another list that no-one asked for:

Living Winners of the Carnegie Medal

The Carnegie medal is awarded for outstanding Children's books whether fiction or non-fiction. It was won by C S Lewis's The Last Battle in 1956 and Neil Gaiman said winning the prize was very important to him. No-one has won the prize three times although seven authors have won it twice.

I have listed the authors in order of thier first win.

Rosemary Harris (b.1923)

*SNIP"

Not the actress but the author Rosemary Harris, dead at 96: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/236935/harris

DDP Pick.

African-American author Ernest J. Gaines dead at 87 years. He was best known for his award-winning novel, A Lesson Before Dying (1993), which tells the story of a black man who is sentenced to death for a crime that he did not commit. Gaines's other works include The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1971) and A Gathering of Old Men (1983):

A touching little story about Joe Hammond, a man from the same town as my ex brother-in-law (Petersfield), who has been diagnosed with MND and has written birthday cards for his two sons that will be the gift that keeps on giving until they are 21.  Awwww, get the tissue.
SC

Published (understandably) in the Only Famous For Being Ill thread above, moving this across as Joe Hammond, playwright and author of A Short History Of Falling is dead: https://www.thebookseller.com/news/author-joe-hammond-dies-aged-50-1122546

Here's the Guardian article from September: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/sep/29/a-short-history-of-falling-joe-hammond-review so a QO is probably assured.

The author Kate Figes, a DDP pick, has been ominously quiet on her Twitter and Facebook pages for several weeks now.  Although, to be fair, most of her Twitter output consisted of retweeting pro-Remain twaddle, so she might have given up on the fight for European solidarity rather than the fight for life itself.

Not sure if her death has been reported but Kate Figes has a Guardian Obit to her name: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/dec/09/kate-figes-obituary

Wow, I had just pencilled her in after a pretty downbeat Daily mail article on her last week.

Anyone else see the BBC doc on Raymond Briggs this week? It's on Iplayer. He looks and sounds dreadfully frail now, and can only do one small picture a month, though he even struggles with that as he "falls asleep too easily". Felt like an obit piece.

I thought he had his own thread?

Anyway, Raymond Briggs "frail but chipper" in this Guardian portrait as he is about to publish what might be his final book "Time for lights out":

Twitter is killing off Scottish author Alasdair Gray. Any word reached you @msc?

Yes, it's true, heard about 30 mins ago. A huge loss for Scottish writing, both in terms of talent and in terms of what a lovely chap he was, always generous with his time, advice and help to others.

Sadly this news is not unexpected but is a bitter blow.

So far my shortlist and dropped names from various teams are kicking the arse of my actual 2020 deadpool teams.

Ah, well.... of course, I had her in contention (think she's on my salvage lot?). But until very recently she tweeted as always. And well, wiki says it was the dreaded complications...her cancer morphing into something else? It must have been a quick downturn.

Prozac Nation is quite possibly the most insufferable book I've ever read.

Still, sad news. Didn't know she was ill.
