Grange Hill

Recommended Posts

Long running British children's programme (1978 - 2008) featuring innumerable actors, some of whom went on to greater things, others who actually learned some life skills!

I've created this topic for those whose best known roles or those whose only roles were in this series, or who may have done other things but don't fit. Inspired by the sad early death of Terry Sue Patt earlier this year.

And now we have our second Grange Hill related death of 2015, with the passing of Maggie Riley at 79.

Death Notice: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/195704/riley

She played Mrs McMahon to Bill Treacher's Mr McMahon. Here she is right at the start of Series 2, Episode 17:

Believe me charon, I have tried all the tips given on this site and still have never been able to get it to work. I'll need a pm with a step by step guide and if that still doesn't work, it must be something to do with my settings.

Give me a freaking detention!

:D , as stated. Your link is fine. Just knock the s off the end of the http.

Try again, padawan. (I obviously put an extra space in previous post, otherwise it would've embedded).

Edited the original post and as you can see, that's all I get, no embed. Ach, what's the difference? It'll take you to a watch on YouTube anyway.

If only I'd stuck in at school...

Incidentally, my Honours dissertation was on data protection, when the proliferation of home computers and extended business use was relatively new. I hate not being able to do something which seems relatively straightforward for everyone else! *double period of sighing*

Hmmm.... Quoting both posts and wills has , yet the embed works when quoted...

Ha ha, I've re-edited the original post (again), this time by using the link button to change the address without the 's'. Again, nothing happens. Must be a settings or browser issue with me. I would have thought a copy and paste, like Cat, would have sufficed. I'm baffled.

Magere Hein can give me a week's worth of detention to fix it I'm sure.

Edit: Just checked. When quoting my own post I still get no embed.

Link button?

Ah, PC ?

I just paste in my link, and knock off the s.

Example

https://youtu.be/JtqF0qBqzZo

Knock off s

And if that doesn't work, I enclose it in [ video] [ /video] tags.

(Best version , evah, btw.....)

Doesn't matter whether I leave in the "s" or take it out; the result is the same.

I'm using a Toshiba laptop running Windows 8.1 and Google Chrome.

Whenever I want to post a You tube clip, I find the clip, copy the address from the bar at the top and paste it in the reply box. I don't do any editing or anything else. It just works every time.

Rod Stewart was definitely my favourite Grange Hill character.

This made me do an actual lol.

I imagine the sort of actor who would be included here would be Michael Cronin (b.1942) who played PE Teacher Bullet Baxter and who may be recognisable from the Fawlty Towers episode The Builders and to younger audiences as Geoffrey of Monmouth in Merlin this would be his high watermark of fame.

Michael Sheard would have been in here, only he's been sadly dead for over a decade. That's my knowledge of Grange Hill used up.

The headteacher was Mrs McClusky played by Gwynneth Powell (b.1946).

I didn't realise that by the time the series ended the head teacher was Mona Lisa actress Cathy Tyson.

Anna Quayle, 83, who played Mrs Monroe, would be worth keeping under observation. In 1964, she also appeared alongside John Lennon in A Hard Day's Night

Wasn't she married to Lister from Red Dwarf?

^ Rather aptly for this thread, I can't upload the photo and instead my efforts are rewarded with that dodgy looking cherry thing. :scratchhead:

Here's the link to the picture.
