A useless fact. The death of Baroness Berners means that there are now just 10 living female hereditary peers (in their own right).

The 21st Lady Saltoun, 92
The 28th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, 88
The 10th Baroness Howard de Walden, 87
The 11th Baroness Arlington, 83
The 31st Countess of Mar, 82
The 8th Baroness Braye, 81
The Marchioness of Lothian/The 16th Lady Herries of Terregles, 78
The 13th Lady Kinloss, 65
The 9th Lady Balfour of Burleigh, 49
The 29th Baroness Dacre, 39

They've been dwindling in numbers for some years. Rewind back several decades ago and there were many more. Why that was the case I'm not entirely sure, but my educated guess would be that two consecutive world wars wiped out a lot of the men, and with certain peerages the women were able to inherit them.

Following the retirements of Lady Saltoun in 2014, and the Countess of Mar in 2020, there are no female hereditary peers currently sitting in the House of Lords.

For majority of peerages that women can’t inherit I imagine for the generation having children in the last twenty years or so some members of the nobility are flying out to America and having gender selection IVF.

For the current living 10 Lady Saltourn  inherited it as her only brother was killed in WW2 fitting what you said. The rest are too young to be affected by the World Wars. A couple of these do have women heirs so female hereditary peers will not be extinct anytime soon.

List of ancient M'sian politicians:

*Abdullah CD (1923), communist insurgent leader

*Abdul Taib Mahmud (1936), CM and governor of Sarawak

*Mahathir Mohamad (1925), immortal PM of Malaysia

*Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (1939), Mahathir's rival who held a lot of posts

*Musa Hitam (1934), deputy PM

*Michael Chen (1932), of Chinese origin, held a lot of posts

*Mohd Khalil Yaakob (1937), thinks he is a Midwest sheriff

*Harris Salleh (1930), decrepit

*Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (1937); minister of finance

*Lee San Choon (1935)

*Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir (1939)

*Samy Vellu (1936), corrupted minister of works

Not dead - and not recent news (September 2022) but never mentioned here before. Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia 2003-2009, has dementia and it's progressed to the point he can't recognize family members and is permanently wheelchairbound.

I was just away to post this but I was looking to see who the oldest former Knesset member is now first.

Is it Mordechai Bibi (wiki)? I think he's the only centenarian former member now.

Mordechai Bibi dead at 100.

Taiwan independence activist Zhong Yiren quickly recovering, off oxygen and ICU now apparently, able to talk and very lucid, soon to be discharged say new facebook posts. He has a radio program he needs to host.

Bye bye Bibi.

Moshe Meron (wiki, b. March 1926) is now the oldest former member of the Knesset. Followed closely by billionaire Stef Wertheimer (wiki, b. July 1926).

Quite a drop from having about 4 centenarians last year...

Janet Anderson, former Labour MP for Rossendale and Darwen (1992-2010), has reportedly died:

Succeeded in her seat by the well known philanthropist and all round good guy Jake Berry (Conservative). (Spot the sarcasm).

She was the MP who successfully introduced free TV licences for over-75s - remember them?

However, tarnished yet again by the expenses scandals - voting to keep expenses claims secret, and it was discovered she was claiming taxpayers' money for all sorts, including 5 round trips a week to her constituency despite living in London - what a dedicated constituency MP! Or chancer!

That's 4 UK MPs dead in 3 weeks.

There was a disproportionally low number (15) of MP deaths in 2022 so looks like 2023 may have a lot instead.

The harsh lighting and grainy film isn't doing him any favours, but he's been a bloated sack of shit for years. Has anyone filmed him falling over drunk on a train lately?
