Bibliogryphon 9,570 Posted April 20, 2016 First hit for me on this game Patricio Aylwin former President of Chile Now I need to find the foreign obits.
Switch 141 Posted April 21, 2016 Now that a month has passed since the beginning of the competition, I thought it would be a good time to see where things stand. Note that this is an unofficial results table, since MH might have different thoughts on which obits count and which don't. I relied on the honesty of my fellow participants. These are the obit counts I used in calculations, as well as the multipliers and points for a non-joker death (unique bonus added where applicable): Anker Jørgensen 25 (Arabic, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greenlandic, Hindi, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish) – multiplier 4.6439, 37 points (unique) Rob Ford 37 (Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian , Lithuanian, Macedonian , Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese) – multiplier 5.2095, 52 points Johan Cruyff 50 (Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Basque, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Western Frisian) – multiplier 5.6439, 45 points Mother Angelica 12 (Croatian, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish) – multiplier 3.5850, 18 points Kris Travis 3 (English, French, Spanish) – multiplier 1.5850, 21 points (unique) Bill Rosendahl 2 (English, Spanish) – multiplier 1, 10 points (unique) Rachel Johnson 3 (Chinese, English, Scots Gaelic) – multiplier 1.5850, 13 points (unique) Patricio Aylwin TBD – obits still incoming So far, the only joker that has passed away is Rob Ford for my team. There have been four unique picks: Anker Jørgensen for Death Impends, Kris Travis for RadGuy, Bill Rosendahl for JiroemonKimura and Rachel Johnson for msc. Bibliogryphon will also get a unique bonus for Aylwin. And now, the results table: Switch: 52*2+45 = 149 Rad's Rad R'list: 52+45+18+21 = 136 Thomas Jefferson Survives: 37+52 = 89 Cancerous Hatred: 52+18+10 = 80 Yankee Go Home: 52 "O" (that is, the letter O): 52 The Unknown Man: 52 RoverAndOut: 45 msc: 13
Death Impends 7,956 Posted April 21, 2016 I think you forgot to factor in the "1 +" in the scoring logarithm? Each multiplier is a whole number lower than my calculations see.
Switch 141 Posted April 21, 2016 That makes sense, because otherwise people with only 1 obit would get 0 points. Adjusted, but still unofficial, results: Switch: 62*2+53 = 177 Rad's Rad R'list: 62+53+23+33 = 171 Thomas Jefferson Survives: 45+62 = 107 Cancerous Hatred: 62+23+20 = 105 Yankee Go Home: 62 "O" (that is, the letter O): 62 The Unknown Man: 62 RoverAndOut: 53 msc: 21 Anker Jørgensen 45 points (unique) Rob Ford 62 points Johan Cruyff 53 points Mother Angelica 23 points Kris Travis 33 points (unique) Bill Rosendahl 20 points (unique) Rachel Johnson 21 points (unique) Patricio Aylwin TBD – obits still incoming
RadGuy 1,614 Posted April 21, 2016 Ahh... 2nd place by a small margin. Thank you, Switch! I've been dying to see the results, but MH has been gone for almost a month.

RadGuy 1,614 Posted April 28, 2016 I also had Diski, which I believe puts me ahead Switch. One question though: Where the hell is Magere Hein? He's been gone for a month.

Death Impends 7,956 Posted July 12, 2016 Hm unique hit with Goran Hadzic for me. Didn't have him on many pools as I wasn't convinced he was actually ill, but thought that if I was wrong he'd have the potential for a solid points total here. Now to see how many obits he gets in the coming days.
RadGuy 1,614 Posted September 14, 2016 It's been almost 6 months since the competition started. Would some benevolent soul who is good at math (I am neither) care to tally up the scores?

I had a look at it a couple of months ago with the intention of doing just that but came to realise not all of the entries are posted.

gcreptile 10,964 Posted September 14, 2016 Ok, I'm not doing too bad here, I guess I should have put more effort in finding obits (especially for my joker), but I didn't really find the time, or the mental focus.

msc 18,437 Posted September 23, 2016 I'm still convinced that he's away on work related activities, for fear of the alternative. Didn't he have a lengthy hiatus a number of years ago? It also struck me that he disappeared shortly after Cruyff's death. If The Grey Horde don't show up in the 2017 DDP, however...

He would have put himself in his DDP team.

Switch 141 Posted September 29, 2016 I got Peres in this game. The longer MH is away, the lesser our enthusiasm to search for obits. I wonder if it's a social experiment

Toast 16,129 Posted October 13, 2016 I got Peres in this game. The longer MH is away, the lesser our enthusiasm to search for obits. I wonder if it's a social experiment Reading between the lines, I think they've had a barney and Hein's buggered off. I would be greatly relieved if that's the explanation. Now then. Why didn't I put King Bumblebee on my list?
RadGuy 1,614 Posted March 19, 2017 Well, then, I think I remember some people saying they might be willing to take this over for Round 2. However, I don't think anybody feels like it anymore, and that's good, if you ask me. There are so many deadpools running nowadays that it's for the best that we let some of them die out.
