But he is still missing some votes to be elected as 13th President of Italy.
prussianblue 1,003 Posted January 19, 2022 A fun summary of the publicity and campaign blitz to get him elected: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/18/silvio-berlusconi-courts-parliamentarians-in-italy-presidential-bid I know he's a deeply corrupt sleazeball, but as a long-term fan of Silvio (in a semi-ironic way), I'd love to see him get the job. Lafaucheuse 4,013 Posted January 22, 2022 Is it health related ?
prussianblue 1,003 Posted January 22, 2022 Damn, beaten to it. Seems like it's more about him not being able to muster the necessary number of votes, despite the charm offensive. Funeralopolis 240 Posted January 22, 2022 health has nothing to do with it, Berlusconi, barring surprises, will not die this year and I have some doubts even for 2023 (I don’t know why Giorgio Napolitano was not chosen). in Italy the renunciation of the candidacy was not a shock at all, he was never seriously a credible candidate for presidency. The Doctor 88 Posted January 24, 2022 Berlusconi received only 7 votes in the first round of the election. But no President has been elected, so tomorrow there will be another round.

There will be no elected president until Thursday according to experts, in large part there will be blank ballots papers or casual names like Rocco Siffredi

arghton 6,639 Posted January 25, 2022 Apparently he was hospitalised on Thursday, not Sunday. Undergoing "long-scheduled tests" I find it a bit weird they announced it so late.

DCI Frank Burnside 3,870 Posted January 26, 2022 Hmm maybe the committee did do well in picking him after all. UTI isn't necessarily too serious but he is in his mid 80's

No doubt true, but Berlusconi is internationally famous, Napolitano isn't.
