rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 9, 2016 Because you can't get enough death. BBC Radio 4's obituary programme broadcast each Friday. Sometimes it's not always deaths that week, just to make it interesting. Apologies if friends outside the UK can't access it, but what they hey. This week featured the Right Reverend David Jenkins, Dame Margaret Anstee, Islam Karimov, and Richard Neville. Prince Buster didn't make it, will he be in next week?

rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 14, 2016 2 days to go who do we think will make the cut? Shimon Peres could be the wild card this week and may be a game time decision. Prince Buster didn't get in last week but could get a musical tribute at the end or even a full piece. Lots of footballers among the possibilities Sylvia Gore, Matt Gray or Ronnie Cope from today. We shouldn't overlook Lord Littlebrook either. Or it could be someone from weeks ago who they've been saving for a quiet week. Who knows? Exciting isn't it? msc 18,421 Posted September 14, 2016 It's been a quiet week so far, so unless someone big goes between now and Friday afternoon, they might run some of their backdated obits. There's been weeks where someone has died, I've looked it up and they actually died about 4-5 months ago, and have been slipped in Last Word on a quiet week. Prince Buster will get a mention at some point, Slyvia Gore feels like the kind of person they like, and doubtless there's one or two former academics on file.

Don't forget Alexis Arquette Arquette is a possibility and did get a BBC Ents and Arts obit. Maybe a bit too american though, however it is, thus far, a quiet week. maryportfuncity 10,630 Posted September 14, 2016 Prince Buster surely is a definite, as an item not just a couple of lines and a blast of Big Five (Peres notwithstanding) Indeed a quiet week so far
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 15, 2016 Dennis Atkins added to the growing list of ex-ex-footballers but no big names still this week. If Peres' condition worsens again he could get the whole show (with Prince Buster at the end).

msc 18,421 Posted September 16, 2016 Going by previous precedent, the death of Carlo Ciampi might have been announced with enough time for him to be on this weeks episode.
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 16, 2016 Unless it changes prior to broadcast, they've dredged up some obits in waiting as we thought. Barry Myers from 17/8, Robin Spark from 6/8, Eileen Younghusband 2/9 and Keith McDougall 22/8. As predicted though, Prince Buster makes it with a full piece. Blimey, predicting this is harder that the DDP (well for me anyway). Enjoy the show.
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 16, 2016 Well there you go another interesting episode. Not sure what reaction a woman standing on a chair and shouting, 'big ben, big ben, big ben' would get these days! And who'd want to be one of Muriel Spark's children? Who will get in next week I wonder?

drol 11,886 Posted September 16, 2016 Next Week: Carlo Ciampi How you say it, it seems it is a dish to be eaten.
msc 18,421 Posted September 20, 2016 Ciampi, Caroline Faber, and Edward Albee are top bets for this weeks. Gabrielle Amorth and Mandoza might fill their interesting world lives.
Spade_Cooley 9,513 Posted September 20, 2016 Bahman Golbarnezhad and Charmian Carr are my wild card picks.
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 21, 2016 Another thin week so far. Ciampi seems a shoo in but is he too Italian? Charmian Carr might give an opportunity to wheel out Julie Andrews or even Plummer? Or what about Alan Cousin for a sporting slant? Peres seems to have turned the corner but what about Chirac? And then there's always someone saved from months back who gets slotted in on a quiet week such as this. Idle speculation welcome.

There's also director Curtis Hanson to consider as well
Death Impends 7,953 Posted September 21, 2016 Albee was an American - though certainly high-profile enough to warrant a spot.
