I know the race itself is done and dusted, but I'll be curious to see how quickly I would have gotten to a score of 2017 or more, were the death row inmates not allowed from the getgo. The death of Brunhilde Pomsel (who was a last-minute inclusion, as mpfc's full inbox at the time meant I had to withdraw a few secret names) puts that hypothetical score at 1710.

I had her too - in the dead pooling sense that is!

The demise of Angelo Bissessarsingh puts the above hypothetical at... 2042. So there we go, would've only taken till the beginning of February otherwise (though the title itself could well have gone to someone else given I didn't have Sims or Wetton)

Aye, Wetton had a few fanciers:

John Wetton – cc, dr, ds, jk, mp, ra, sw, yw

Morrie Boogaart, the hat-knitting man in hospice care who was picked for this competition by me, now out of hospice, alive, and possibly still knitting hats:

Well, I've finally crossed the 2017 point threshold.

All without the help of my joker! Good for you, Sara Hankins.

I had Soares, Snuka, Sims, McGiffin, Sumner, and Aspin*.

Of course, way too late, but I still managed to finish before last year's winner, and without death row picks.

*assuming he is to get an obit

I passed it with Steve Sumner on the 8th. Evidence is it'd have been one of the fastest Deathraces on record even without the executions.

I would not be shocked if most of my entry is gone by the halfway point this year, and yet Kay Hagan could well still be here in a couple decades time.

Aye, respect RG but the Aspin q/o eludes me (and fuck knows this is a fairly permissive pool by the standards hereabouts).

All I've seen so far is a personal blog

Well then, Aspin's obitlessness doesn't matter anymore as Sara Coward has died.

Still ahead of DDT's 2016 winning performance.

Aye, it was easier running it with death row - but less punter-fun, eh?

I'm hearing ya.

My joker, "iconic beer vendor" Captain Earthman has died now:

Edit: I'm 10/20 now, yay? (Though to be fair, Alan Aspin didn't obit at all...)

Captain Earthman was a long-lister for me this year, thought there might be a 15% chance of him getting a Mail obit.

That there obit would have counted as well

My survivors now, hmm... just

  1. Tony Booth
  2. Kay Hagan
  3. Roy Head
  4. Yisrael Kristal
  5. Michael I of Romania
  6. Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman

Probably only Hagan and Head will be left by 2019, and they'll prevent a clean sweep for 20 years or so. And both names I swapped out because I didn't want to post them publicly (Catherine Nevin and Larry Pickering) are still alive, but the names I swapped in their place for public entry (Pomsel and Sallis) are gone.

I only have 7 survivors at this point. They are:

1. Tony Booth

2. Bruce Forsyth

3. Sid Hartman

4. Heidi Loughlin

5. King Michael of Romania

6. TG Sheppard

7. Nobby Stiles

Like Death Impends, I think I have someone who'll block me for decades, and that is TG Sheppard. Though the fact that these are my only survivors in my first deathrace attempt ever is an achievement for me imo.

I think mine will all be gone within 5 years. The only thing that could derail it is Jagraj Singh somehow beating his incurable cancer.

Though to be fair, I think in this competition, you SHOULD go for the punts, as you only need 5-6 picks to hit early to win. Anna Holmlund would have been an option here. Kay Hagan was worth it as well.

1. Jenn Blake

2. Jason Busby

3. Gord Downie

4. Rayya Elias

5. Vanessa Greene

6. Anna Holmlund

7. Matt Hirst

8. Caroline Laws

9. Catherine Nevin

10. Simon Ricketts

All but Number 6 will gone inside 2 years. Number 6 will outlive me.

Down to eight, then

Shows how little attention I've been paying to compiling next year's lists.
