Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 21, 2017 The entire goddamn country of Dominica is under water and somehow that former PM Patrick John swam his one-legged ass to safety? I call bullshit. Awaiting obit. SC

msc 18,475 Posted September 23, 2017 Meh, it happens. Live and learn. Well, Bradley wont but you know what I mean!
Joey Russ 7,228 Posted September 23, 2017 It might give more power on TJS than anyone else imo. If Booth and Michael both die, that'll put him at 2 points above DQSBP if both Greg Gilbert and Simon Ricketts live. I think we're close to the climax, and we'll go to see what will turn out to be an amazing competition...
gcreptile 10,972 Posted September 23, 2017 Well, I can't complain for not picking him. I got some correct inside information. But the cancer returned with a vengeance. It happens I guess... Edit: DQSP and GS are level now. Cryne and Elias are on a timer... but what about King Michael... survival mystery of the year..
Death Impends 7,976 Posted September 23, 2017 Well that was quick... I still don't see myself having a likely victory route even with this boost, as even if Booth/Michael go I think I still need Karl (who I think is an 18-er) to get past Bert assuming Cryne dies? Probs assures a podium place for me though, which is nice.

If Elias dies, you'll be at 142 and Spade will be at 157 (a new point record even if Bracknell, Downie, and Nevin survives the year, which is useless for the three of you). If Booth goes, you'll be at 151, which is three points ahead of Bert, but Cryne would bring him to 156. So you'll be 5 points behind him if Michael goes, which means you're right that you need Stefansson for a likely victory. But that means if both Elias and Cryne goes, that means that Bert must have King Michael die for him to beat Spade. An all round tenseful climax for sure... Death Impends 7,976 Posted September 23, 2017 I have Rayya in the same column as Cryne, ie treating their points as a near certainty even though they still breathe for the time being.
drol 11,947 Posted September 23, 2017 Elias and Cryne are a matter of when, Bradley was pretty unexpected. Nevin is probably gonna die too, so a fifth consecutive victory for DQSP looks quite likely now. If Greg Gilbert/Stefan Karl dies it's over. For GS and TJS I see picking Ricketts has drastically reduced their chances as he's nowhere near to death. At least one between King Michael and Tony Booth will probably survive, making TJS chances even dimmer. Yes, being all quiet it seems Michael is not the best pick for 2017. And I desperately need Leah Bracknell to stick in the top ten!
msc 18,475 Posted September 23, 2017 With Elias on the clock, its Spade's to lose now, imo.

Spade_Cooley 9,527 Posted September 23, 2017 I'd assume, without calculating it properly, me because my average age of hits is lower?
Death Impends 7,976 Posted September 23, 2017 Bert has two hits (Brucie, Soares) older than Spade's oldest (Meads) so presumably so.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted September 23, 2017 Most hits, then average age... Edit: That said it's likely that any switching I'd have to do is manual as the page generator will pick one or the other, likely DQSP as it's earlier in the alphabet...
Joey Russ 7,228 Posted September 24, 2017 A thought came into my head: Could it be possible for both Rayya Elias and Patrick Cryne to survive the year? I mean, Errol Christie survived 2016 even though everyone thought he was a cert for 2016...

drol 11,947 Posted September 24, 2017 Gilbert, Ricketts, Nevin, Elias, Cryne, Downie, Michael, Bracknell all survive the year. Now that would be hilarious.

Joey Russ 7,228 Posted September 24, 2017 Hm. David Quantick Showbiz Pals may have a lot of achievements under his belt, including potentially a 5th win, but I gonna take a guess that Spade will not be the first team to get 20 hits on their team...
gcreptile 10,972 Posted September 24, 2017 I actually think it's a somewhat easy feat to achieve - easier than it might seem. I think Spade could have done it, for example, if he hadn't gone for the relatively young Greg Gilbert, but, say Violet Brown, or someone like that. But we all take risks for the lower age brackets. It hurt my main team too much this year and I might take a different approach the next time. But take the eight names above (though some of them will still die), plus a couple of low-hanging fruit, Dilip Kumar, for example. Plus possible new must-haves like John McCain or José José (if he survives) and I think you get a floor of 12-13 hits. Then pick Richard Overton or the new oldest person of the world. And you get a relatively low score, but 15 hits without a lot of risk.
Joey Russ 7,228 Posted September 24, 2017 Well, it's certainly going to be interesting for 2018. But I think if you ignore current survivors, you could have gotten 18 hits so far with decent research with a decent team like this: Mark Sims (joker) Glen Campbell Errol Christie Sara Coward Smith Hart Steve Hewlett Connie Johnson Bruce Langhorne Lisa Magill Tracy McGiffin Colin Meads Peter Skellern Jimmy Snuka Mario Soares Steve Sumner Joost van der Westhuizen Paul van Zandvliet John Wetton Of course, this is all within hindsight, and there's certainly more hits to come, but it may not be as hard as some people suspect, they just have to put the right names down for their team...
