I went on his Wiki page earlier and groaned when I saw it.

He was essentially the only producer who could get a western musical into China, and was well known in the industry for doing so over the years. His work domestically was pretty good, but his work in China opened up the market to a lot of western companies (especially Disney) in the last decade or two. Didn't know him personally, but knew people who've dealt with him.

I totally missed this one!

In 1973, Griffiths wrote The Party, a play about socialist intellectuals which included Lawrence Olivier in his final appearance on stage. RIP.

With the now confirmed passing of Ray Lawler the earliest surviving play author to win the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play leaps forward by 15 years to Tom Stoppard although the oldest is Athol Fugard. Brian Friel who won in 1991 is already dead so the new addition is Angels in America author Tony Kushner

He appeared on The Weakest Link 20 years ago alongside such as Ruth Madoc and Alvin Stardust, though other still living celebs were on that show.

Very sad news. I had seen him in Panto once years ago.
 

He owned the Panto website It’z Behind You. Big name in the Pantomime world.

 

Posts on Twitter account reveals he died from Lung Cancer. Was he on anybody’s radar? He could well Obit with the amount of celebs he has worked with and is friends with.

Ellacott gets a full Times obit, and it reveals he died from lung cancer.
