It was then a US 1950's b-side before returning to Europe and becoming a worldwide hit in the 90's, reaching number 1 in the artist's home country. It's oh so quiet? Hit for Björk

Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode? nope, this band has their first hit in late 70s and their last in the early 90s, and their biggest (but not best) hit was a beatles cover. And I take it back about Time's one :-)

Toast 16,142 Posted February 27, 2019 Thought it was too familiar ...... Guilty pleasure time. Eponymous song from an 80s film, sung by a bloke with a silly name and silly hair.

Handrejka 1,904 Posted February 27, 2019 The song I'm thinking of was not a hit but is well thought of. It name checks one of DL's successes from 2014 .

Don't think it'll be The Clash as Combat Rock album in general not that well thought of. Suzanne Vega maybe. Lou Reed maybe. Madonna more likely, can't mind the name of it but from Evita. But there'll be oodles more songs that name check her.

British Band, formed in the 60s, three quarters of the original line are still alive.

If another can go can I leap in with summat that might take more than a few seconds to solve? An album track from a collection that charted higher in the UK than anywhere else significant - though the album dropped like a stone after chart entry and only went gold in the US. Released by an act everyone (near as makes no odds hereabouts) will have heard of. Thing is, you'd easily be confused if you heard this song on its own because all the vocals are supplied by the hired help and the whole song is a pretty wilful act of lyrical banality (repeating the few words with some slight musical and vocal embellishment) meaning it's credited to the act who made the album but bears few of the hallmarks of the acts typical style. For all that it's a pretty tune!
