Guest iain smith Posted March 1, 2005 In an interview in todays Independent newspaper Patrick Moore clearly comes across as an increasingly sick old man whos fed up with life and is predicting his own death soon. You can read the article at http://news.independent.co.uk/people/profi...sp?story=615343
Grim_Rita 4 Posted March 1, 2005 He is sick looking at all those stars without them knowing. What a perv!
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted March 2, 2005 Fascinating article. Moore combines plenty of good sense and humour with membershiip of the UKIP and a fair dose of what in these enlightened times could only be called racism. I particularly like the bit about his girlfriend having been killed in the Blitz being the reason why he is a lifelong bachelor. A true loony of the old school. PS: Mods, shouldn't this thread be merged with the other one?
Mortician 2 Posted March 2, 2005 I particularly like the bit about his girlfriend having been killed in the Blitz being the reason why he is a lifelong bachelor. This week on the Sky At Night... The Luftwaffe rising in the eastern horizon Let us hope the reflection from Patrick's mirror telescope didn't identify the target. I would have thought his complete looniness and more than a little scary xylophone playing are more drivers for his single status! Give Pat his due he is a national institution or perhaps should be in one

themaninblack 2,112 Posted March 8, 2005 It was on Monday on BBC4 at 8.30pm. The younger chap at the start maybe the one to replace the old pro when he finally joins the stars he's watched these many years.
lospalmas7 12 Posted April 1, 2005 Forgot to post this from The Telegraph a few days ago: Wartime injury finally brings Sir Patrick down to Earth Sir Patrick Moore, the monocled astronomer known and loved by generations for his eccentricity and enthusiasm, has been forced to give up stargazing after more than 70 years. A spinal injury suffered during the Second World War has left the astronomer unable to use his hands without great difficulty. He can only walk with the aid of two sticks and now experiences problems standing to peer through his telescope. I should also point out the line: It was while he was serving with the RAF that his sweetheart was killed in the Blitz, and he has remained single ever since. Dr Strangelove 14 Posted May 7, 2005 For research I watched this month's "The sky at night" on BBC4. About a 1/3 of the show was presented by Patrick's Protégé, who did all the the outside stuff and then reported back to "Gamesmaster" Patrick is quite studio bound now - indeed I think it's from his home in Chichester. He seemed in okay health, but he's now unable to put his tie on straight. I think he's a definite for this year.
The Yeti 14 Posted May 7, 2005 Its a pity that the protégé has had a charisma bypass. Snore At Night.
Josco 49 Posted May 7, 2005 but he's now unable to put his tie on straight. His tie and other bits of his clothing were always in a mess, some consider that to be part of his charm.

Maybe if he starts looking neat that will be a sign that his death soon awaits him?

Lady Die 63 Posted May 19, 2005 moore is going to be around for a few years yet his mother hit 90 something Given that living to a ripe old age is at least partly hereditary, do the "death watchers" check out the age when a potential deathlister's parents checked out?
