gcreptile 10,966 Posted December 31, 2019 Thumbs up for Michael Verhoeven! I once saw him personally because he owned the cinema down the street. He has sold it and his other cinema though.

Death Impends 7,963 Posted December 31, 2019 Submitted my team, which confessedly is fairly conventional. While I'm keeping hopeful of a top 10 spot, I doubt there's that extra oomph for an outright win. All I personally wanted is one DDP win, and with that likely to finally happen, and the way life is shifting meaning I likely won't have as much time for extensive research, I now shift to a more relaxed approach, largely picking the (competitive) names I want to pick, even if some others are better coldly logically. Good luck to all! (and of course, if I lose the lead within the remaining hours, then that's a sign from the deadpool Gods I shouldn't bother trying to win anyway... )

As I am not familiar with the British media, what would the rules say in plain language. Would David Hagen get obit? OBITUARY QUALIFICATION:To win points, there must be the mention of a celebrity's death on a national online news source: BBC*: bbc.co.uk/news (and all subsections, including the previously banned local news pages) bbc.co.uk/sport bbc.co.uk/newsbeat And from the UK versions of the following: telegraph.co.uk thetimes.co.uk ft.com theguardian.com dailymail.co.uk express.co.uk dailystar.co.uk thesun.co.uk mirror.co.uk morningstaronline.co.uk inews.co.uk heraldscotland.com (As of 1/1/2018, the death announcements section of broadsheet websites, which members of the general public can pay for listings, are excluded) ...and from these news sites: uk.reuters.com news.sky.com/uk skysports.com itv.com/news* (this includes local news pages) channel4.com/news The notice of death must be in written English. Video links are only accepted if the strapline mentions the celeb’s passing. The following news sources are excluded as from 1st January 2016: Huffington Post UK, MSN UK, Yahoo UK, Scotsman, Daily Record, STV and UTV. Independent has now been removed as of 1st January 2017 as it no longer has a regular print edition. i is a valid obit source as of 1/1/2018.

Ah yeah - I keep forgetting the sports pages counts so he won't fall into the old 'headlines sports pages but nothing in news' trap.

No, remember I fell into the "Pick actually got a mention on the BBC news but not on the one page of the BBC that counted as a QO" trap* in 2017-ish so yeah the whole bbc.co.uk counts. *OK, they were a bit fringey of a candidate but by the 5th BBC obit that didn't count for him I was started to feel trolled a little bit...
Eesti 151 Posted December 31, 2019 Thank you guys for the input! I decided to put him on the bench, because even though there is no QO fear anymore I think that he might hang on a little. Usually MND doesn't kill with 1-2 years. I sent my team and theme team in and hope top 10 finish for my 10th appearance at the DDP. So far my best is 12th in 2016. msc 18,439 Posted December 31, 2019 I've not seen the teams yet but I'm about 90% sure Genesis Porridge makes the Drop 40 so he might be a very popular joker in 2020. Others with a decent shot at Drop 40 bonus who might be popular jokers are David Gulpilil and Chris Doleman. One of those is my 2020 Pan Breed joker. Not exactly a hidden name! There are some posters on this forum who, and I mean this as a massive compliment and tremendous respect btw, are sort of bellwether teams for the Drop 40. When they pick the terminally sick names you know they are getting huge traction across the forum. So far a few of them have posted public teams across the forum, and 5 names have appeared everywhere: Trebek unsurprisingly, Porridge, Gulpilil (will I Learn to spell his name by obit time?) and Doleman, and actually Frankie Banali, which surprises me. But they seem the top tips right now for new ill Drop 40ers.
