Dead Danes

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this thread is allowed or not. But since I'm starting to be a regular user - I kinda want a thread that focus on Denmark + i got my own dead pool in my signature, so that's that. Not sure if there are any other danes on this site or any none-danes who has interest but here goes.

First death of 2020 (and this decade) that has shocked us. Loved actor, Søren Spanning, died today. 68 years old. Super shocked, didn't know he was sick. He appeared in many TV-series and movies.

Olsen Brothers and Emmelie de Forest, and maybe Sandi Toksvig.

Haven't looked at the Nobel, but they will go in the Nobel thread (if any).

One part of the Olsen Brothers, Niels Noller Olsen, has been diagnosed with cancer not too long ago and might not have too long. Got him in the top 3 of my list.

Trouble is some Danes don't get a lot (or any) UK obits as poor old Tom Belso proved.

Obviously the majority of Denmark's senior members of their Royal family will.

On that note, isn't Prince Philip technically Danish?

Yeah, i know. I guess, I'll see where it goes from here. I'll update the thread every once in a while when a Dane dies. And Tom Belsø barely got any recogniztion in Denmark either. Turns out, pretty much no one knew who he was.

And I'm fairly certain that Phillip had a Danish title.

Not just a title, Philip's paternal line is Danish.  His grandfather was a Danish prince born in Copenhagen.

That may change, as streaming of TV programmes has introduced us to many Scandinavian actors.

Off the top of my head, Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolai Coster Waldau,  Kim Bodnia .....

Jens Bjerre died today, aged 98. He was an Explorer, author and made films.

Not a person I had on my list because i thought he died years ago. Kinda bummed I missed out on that hit.

I'll just keep updating this thread even though 99% of the forum wouldn't care or know about these Danish people. Why not, really?

Former Chief designer of LEGO and the mind behind the LEGO figure, Jens Nygård Knudsen, dead aged 78.

Tom Belso - first Dane to compete in F1 - died in January. Just thought I'd - like - mention it in case anyone working for a major news organisation wanted to mention it in a story.

Finally a noteable death.

Yahya Hassan (24) dead.

Known for his poetry about religion in Denmark that was anti muslim. Was named one of the most talented poets of our time and a man who shocked our culture with his writing.

Anyways...

Just a week later - another major death in Denmark. This time, it is pianist/composer, Bent Fabricus-Bjerre, who has passed away, aged 95. Best known for his iconic intro tunes for the greatest TV series, Matador, and movie series, Olsen Banden, in Denmark. He also won a grammy in 1962 with the single "Alley Cat".

Hit #2 on my list.

Better known as Bent Fabric.

And as @Ulitzer95 and I know from the clipping I posted a day or so ago, helped David Thorne into the UK charts in 1962.

Oh-uh forgot to post here. Unlikely that anyone outside of Denmark knows who he was...

But beloved frontman of Shu-bi-dua, Michael Bundesen, dead aged 71. Memorial sing-along was held in prime time on national TV tonight. Must admit that his music was never my cup of tea but he did make some great songs. Besides Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, this one of the biggest deaths of 2020 for Denmark. No english obit, sadly,

Can't be a very good James Dean if he made it to 85!

Above is James Dean, one of the most fuckable men to have ever graced Hollywood. Below is "Danish James Dean".

To me the difference is like paying £250 for a designer coat or opting for the £20 ripoff from a backstreet Chinese market, which you may have to deflea when you get home. The Danes can pipe down :P
