While the current game is in a lull (only 2 hits in 2 months after 11 in the first 3 months!), the death of Leon Spinks has put a few people over the top in Game 2, with a hit in all 5 categories. @Bibliogryphon and @CaptainChorizo take joint-5th place, while @Death Impends becomes the first person to complete the game twice (having already finished 3rd with 3 unique picks). Special kudos to Biblio, who impressively completed all 5 categories with just 5 hits in the entire game! Hits with Jan Olzewski (EU Leaders), Leon Spinks (Boxing), Ken Kercheval (Dallas), Aretha Franklin (Grammys) and Verna Bloom (Kevin Bacon) was all it took! Economical, just a bit slow.

A heavyweight day for the HPDP with the news that Leon Spinks died yesterday. 10 beneficiaries stand triumphant in the ring as they punch up the scoreboard: 45 points for Joey Russ. 40 for chilean way and Exu. 35 for An Fear Beag. 30 for En Passant and The Quim Reaper. 25 for Funeralopolis. 20 for theoldlady - and as Spinks died the day before Bayh, the value of her Bayh hit shrinks by 5 to 25. and a featherweight 10 for Annami and The Unknown Man.

Obama was very close to picking Indiana governor/senator Evan Bayh as his running mate back in 08. So in a universe where that happened, we could've seen Susan Bayh on the Drop 40! But instead we're in the world where he picked Biden, and Susan Bayh made the Drop 40. Hey wait a minute... Three teams want points, now that she can't go back there. 45 points for LizLemon, 30 for theoldlady, and 20 for drol. And with that, our latest scoreboard. The top two remain unchanged, but Dying Probably zooms into third off the Cicely Tyson-Captain Tom Moore one-two. 1. Perhaps 104 2. Charles De Gaulle 72 3. Dying Probably 70.19 4. drol 67 =5. CaptainChorizo 50.32 =5. gcreptile 50.32 =7. Pedro67 50.19 =7. YoungWillz 50.19 9. An Fear Beag 50 10. Great Uncle Bulgaria 45.19 =11. Book 45 =11. Eesti 45 =11. LizLemon 45 =11. time 45 15. Death Impends 42 16. theoldlady 30 17. msc 25.32 =18. Exu 25 =18. Funeralopolis 25 20. The Daredevil 24 21. Sean 16 =22. Everyone else 0

I mean, directors would specifically ask if Fielder was available on filming days for their work, which tells you how widespread respect he had. Also a familiar online presence about 10-20 years ago - seemed a decent bloke.

We can choose to be really pedantic about this or we can agree that anything with a Yahoo UK or Daily Mail stamp on it qualifies, in order not to complicate things. Check you trying to depreciate ppl of points though. Petty. We can be pedantic about the phrase "begs the question" too. It does not mean what some people think it means. What he was trying to say, I think, is that it prompts the question.

Twitter reporting the death of British character actor Harry Fielder, whose numerous appearances were largely uncredited. They included 15 Doctor Who episodes from 1967 to 1982. Fielder was 80.

SPINKS KO'D 3/50 5th February 2021 Professional heavyweight boxing legend Leon Spinks has died to give the crowdsource list a quick follow up hit. Spinks began his career by beating future champion (and past dead pool cult pick) Michael Dokes for the AAU title in 1974. He later got a gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics, beating out Sixto Soria for the gold medal. By the end of his amateur career, he only had 7 losses total and 133 KOS, so it was perhaps an omen to how well he would do once he got to the professional league. He defeated many folk in 1977 and eventually got Scott LeDoux to a draw in the same year. It was in 1978 however where his most remembered match occurred. He faced the all time great Muhammad Ali in February 1978, where Ali underestimated Spinks and lost the heavyweight title to Spinks. It ended up being the only time Ali lost a title to anybody. Spinks refused to defend the heavyweight title against Ken Norton however, and he was stripped of the title because of it. He eventually rematched Ali, where this time the legend easily defeated Spinks. Spinks slowed down after that, eventually being defeated by Larry Holmes in order to get the heavyweight title back and moving to cruiserweight soon afterwards. He still boxed up to 1994, but despite his mixed record in the end, he still had that record of being one of the few boxers to beat Ali. In late 2019, it was announced that he had prostate cancer, and while at first it seemed like not that big of a threat, it eventually became clear it was much more severe as 2020 went along. As such, he easily punched his way past the competition to get a top 10 spot on his debut year.

4/40 in the Drop40 gone. Two in the last 24 hours alone. Beginners luck though I reckon. Still, I can see there being another 10–12 from that list before the year is out.
