Jan Furtok, Polish player in the 80s that defected to West Germany and played for Hamburger SV and Eintracht Frankfurt but is probably most memorable for scoring the goal that saved Poland from humiliation of getting a draw with San Marino during 1994 World Cup qualification, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer. He did a Maradona Hand of God just to save Poland from that.

Jan Furtok has died at 62:

Comprehensive list of Brazilian players who suffered from dementia dated 2016. I think only 2 players on the list are still alive: João "Zico" Dias, and Nair Jose da Silva. No wiki page for Zico but has a Zerozero profile. Nair Jose strangely only has Polish wiki page despite never playing in Europe.

Nair died in 2018 - https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/ultimas-noticias/2018/08/22/morre-nair-ex-jogador-de-madureira-portuguesa-corinthians-e-atletico-pr.htm

If anyone from The Times is reading this website, I suggest you go change your obit for John McNamee.

Says he died on 29th November. Physically impossible given that his death was announced on 28th November, and that announcement said "he died earlier this week".

Sloppy journalism...

The Telegraph have published a delayed obit for him and unusually they don’t list a date of death just that the death was announced on the 28th November 2024.

That's not that unusual. They do that at least once a month.
