Any others are second rate. 1

Anyone else?

Died at 89 in 2017. Have a feeling BB could well follow her footprints… She was one of the most famous French film actresses. Similar to Catherine Deneuve, anyone with an interest in cinema would know of her. Bardot, I have to say, is famous more for being a sex symbol than for her film career. Would Moreau have been Deathlisty? Definitely. Jeanne Moreau is in one of my favourite films - A Foreign Field it's about WW2 veterans returning to Normandy on the 50th anniversary of D-Day. It's very funny and very moving. Do see it if you can track it down.

A wonderful actress and remarkable woman. A sex symbol also which turned Pierre Cardin hetero as they dated for 4 years.

A very aesthetic movie and the dialogs are gold

I wouldn't call myself a cinéaste, but Moreau is definitely one of the few French film actresses I have always been aware of. Audrey Tautou and Marion Cotillard are a different generation. Both have been in films that were very popular in the UK (Amelie and La Vie En Rose) so that has raised their profiles here.
CaptainChorizo 1,990 Posted January 3 Interestingly about Tautou, she has only done 1 english language film since she made The DaVinci Code (which made 600 Mllion woldwide) 18 years ago. Almost like she got a sample of worldwide fame and stardom and said, this ain't for me.
The Daredevil 1,189 Posted January 3 Sophia Loren and Alain Delon would have been better picks this year.
prussianblue 1,038 Posted January 4 I'd add Eva Green to the 'French actresses famous in the UK' list. Casino Royale does a lot of the heavy lifting but she's been in plenty of other English-language productions.

The Daredevil 1,189 Posted February 2 The DL may have jumped the gun on this one. Of course, hard to know by just her voice, but in this phone interview a couple of months ago (after her hospitalisations), her voice still sounds strong and full of life.

She’s still an 89 year old woman with known breathing difficulties. Perhaps not the strongest pick of the year but I just can’t see her going far into her 90s in her state. Lafaucheuse 4,052 Posted June 18 Recently gave an interview by phone in which She stated she worries for Alain Delon. Sounds a little weak to me, has problem articulating.
The Daredevil 1,189 Posted July 27 Well enough to do an interview with Le Parisien lashing out at the arrest of an anti-whaling activist An acceptable drop for 2025, especially at this rate.

Lafaucheuse 4,052 Posted September 20 Recent interview with Le Monde, you can hear her speak here, telling she can’t walk anymore unless with two walking sticks, she hates medicine and sounds frail to me… but she feels young and happy apparently ? La Tombe 354 Posted September 28 Happy Birthday to BB….she turns 90 today ! She still lives peacefully on the French Riviera…but still complains a lot about usual life. Since a few days, many French newspaper made their headlines about this anniversary including this local one published in the area where she lives. And by the way, she is the last French icon known worldwide after the passings of J-P Belmondo in 2021 and Alain Delon in 2024.
