RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted July 14, 2022 Lord 'Frosty' has just tried to do a hatchet job on Penny Mordaunt, claiming she wasn't a very good deputy during his negotiations with the EU, which frankly is a massive tick in her column for me. Anybody he wants as leader I don't want anywhere near the job.
TQR 14,398 Posted July 14, 2022 I had to play this twice to check that’s definitely what she said. Still, at least Liz ‘Pork Markets’ Truss is setting herself aside from other Tories by being honest.

Largely, they’re the same people that’ll say they fully appreciate why the fucking Tories are all so disgusting and vile and shouldn’t be anywhere near power, but they’ll NEVER vote Labour cos, erm, they’re Labour? Something something Corbyn something woke socialist something something. Nonsense. And god forbid a progressive alliance. They’ll just parrot the utter tripe that “meh, they’re all as bad as each other” and that’s why we’ve been under Tory rule for nearly two thirds of the time since the war and died on our arse throughout. There are undesirables in all sectors of the political spectrum but I’m fucked if I can find one decent one among the current Tories (the few decent people have been ousted to make way for Johnsonism). I will never fail to exercise my democratic right, and I’ll use it to oust the poisoned bunch of self-serving no-righters. The alternative to them is not perfect, but to see that as a reason not to change what we have is immensely fucking stupid. 4
TQR 14,398 Posted July 14, 2022 Truss’ speech earlier was a fucking shambles. So here’s her in 1994 instead.

So many left-wing commentators on Twitter (RIP) are seemingly quite happy to allow the Tories in by default because of something that Corbyn/Starmer said/didn't say. Its unlikely that this country will ever have a truly socialist/marxist government, but there comes a time when you have to be pragmatic and opt for the 'least worst' option.

The Owen Joneses of the world need to learn how to compromise, particularly now.
msc 18,477 Posted July 14, 2022 Owen Jones is a fucking idiot. Also, the fewer nihilistic right wingers who vote, the better, IMO.

TQR 14,398 Posted July 14, 2022 Cruella Braverman is out, thank the fucking lord. Tugend is floundering, and Braverman’s votes will largely go to Badenough. Next vote is on Monday. By then, having received 5 fewer votes today than yesterday, Tugend might’ve dropped out.

Sean 6,329 Posted July 14, 2022 Tugendhat is definitely next one out .
Sean 6,329 Posted July 14, 2022 Big question is will it be Mordaunt or Truss vs Sunak at this stage.
Sean 6,329 Posted July 14, 2022 Badenoch could come third next round if she picks up the majority of Bravermans support and shores up her own.I find that doubtful though but a possibility.

At worst, the least of all the evils. However a decent Tory leader will be harder to beat come the next election, so there's that.

RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted July 14, 2022 So, crunching some numbers: Sunak - 101 (+13) Mordaunt - 87 (+16) Truss - 64 (+14) Badenoch - 49 (+9) Tugendhat - 32 (-5) Braverman - 27 (-5) Plus 25 from Zahawi and 18 from Hunt (there were 2 who didn't vote today, compared to 1 yesterday). Obviously impossible to know who changed their votes, but notable that the top 3 all gained at a similar rate from those eliminated. Potentially Tugendhat's 5 defected to the more insurgent Mordaunt and Braverman's nut jobs switched to the more promising nut job Badenoch. Braverman not yet ready to announce who she's supporting, although listening to her comments it won't be Mordaunt and it's probably a toss up between Badenoch and Truss. If she backed Badenoch, and her votes followed, Badenoch could well overtake Truss for 3rd place in the next round of voting, which would weaken Truss's argument that she is best placed on the right to win. Still doesn't feel like a fait accompli that Sunak makes the ballot. If Tugendhat's votes landed with Mordaunt, she could overtake him for top spot and it could yet be Sunak v Truss for the second spot. In that scenario, with Badenoch the last one standing, Truss could beat him as she'd likely pick up more of Badenoch's supporters. That's all an oversimplification, but you get my point. There's a lot more horse trading to come yet.
Toast 16,140 Posted July 14, 2022 Got an email from my MP today. Says Boris had to go and she was one of the 148 who voted against him. Well, she would, wouldn't she? Included a little survey which I completed and returned with alacrity. Quote Following the resignation of the Prime Minister, which statement best reflects your view? Which candidates have you heard of? Who do you think would be the best Prime Minister? Why have you chosen this candidate? Are there any other candidates that you think are good? More questons about my voting intentions which I chose not to disclose.
RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted July 14, 2022 Braverman backs Truss. Bad news for Badenoch. Almost certainly a 3-way fight between Sunak, Mordaunt and Truss now. I suspect Labour would be very happy for it to come down to the millionaire v the cheese lady.
Sean 6,329 Posted July 14, 2022 I find it weird that Truss is now characterised as on the right of the party all of a sudden also so many Brexiteers are backing her even though she was a vocal remainer. Truss is so awkward. The worst media performer of all the candidates.

Truss though…I find the idea of her being PM about as hilarious as I do alarming. Think I’ve been desensitised to the utter decimation of our country. 1 1
