Aye, apparently impregnable, on a turnout around 51,500 in 2019 she took around 35,500 votes.

She's standing again and the shitstorm that'll likely follow the local elections probably won't touch her, either, because it'll be everyone's opportunity to pile on Sunak

Interesting stuff from an - apparently - reputable poll in the Sunday Times today suggesting the Tories are looking at likely less than 100 MPs, partly down to tight constituencies being vulnerable to the double whammy of Reform UK and tactical anti-Tory voting. Ironically, the one thing that made her own seat vulnerable was the stint she had as PM and the poll ratings just before she departed.

One of the Tories at Nigel Farage's  birthday party

Seriously, this is west end gold if someone were minded to put a production together on the last days of this government and the machinations because they still think there's a future for them.

Farage is a serial choker where taking on true leadership is concerned, and there's a track record of former colleagues chucked overboard at some point who've no particular wish to work with him again

Kinda like Mark E Smith's leadership of The Fall except Farage couldn't write anything approaching Cruiser's Creek to save his life!

So, to see a former PM reduced to this kind of ligging within 18 months of leaving office  is likely a new low for post-war British politics

Chris Mason's digest of the main threads in Truss's new book  linked below - Sunday Times discussed the advances (financial) on this, which were fairly low (less than £2000 in the UK),  and also the 71-year-old independent standing against her at the next election (point being the guy's basically a Conservative and very big on actually representing local issues in parliament). Truss could hang on and keep peddling her personal brand of Conservatism, or it could all go to even more shit in the next few months. Interesting times, eh?

That would be the Portillo Moment if she were to cop it.

Not really, he was the future big star of the party, tipped to be the next leader.

She has no future, and despite being PM for 5 minutes, nothing much of interest in the past either.

I’d be amazed if she lost.

Isn't Truss one of the few Tories that's probably guaranteed to retain their seat.

On paper yeah, but it's a triple curve ball situation, there'll be a Reform candidate, the local independent is making it clear he favours standard Tory policies but he's a local guy who gives a shit about his constituents (something she has a reputation for not doing), and there's the tactical voting that appears to be happening and being targeted on particular individuals (Hunt, for one is vulnerable to this), so Truss could find it being squeaky bum time, even if she has a job after the election

From the FT describing Truss:

"Unfortunately, her approach worked a bit like this: imagine a bunch of people are stuck in a warm, stuffy room together. Everyone wants the windows to be opened, but they are fastened shut by complicated locks. While people try to work out how the locks operate, one of them, Liz, attempts to throw a chair through the window. The chair bounces off and hits her in the face."

The perfectly accuarte description

She's the gift that keeps on giving. Another classic, just like "I'm a fighter, not a quitter"

Her book has broken Cabinet Office Rules.

She might not make it to the election.

If something will bring down Truss, the history of ironic scandals in the Tory party means her downfall will be due to a bondage bombshell.
