Apart from the two Blondie tracks I think that the artists with two tracks in play there tends to be one which is preferable but unfortunately I think which one it will be will be different for all of us.

Counterpoint. Of the 25, I’d consider 12 reasonable with 4 or 5 of those very good. Of the other 13 I’d consider 6 to be absolute shockers, 7 tolerable.

This has easily been the strongest group so far and after we quickly got rid of Lena Martell then most of the others were cultural staples that you wouldn't turn off if they came on the radio.

I have picked my five that I want to progress but most of the ones that are above 20 I would accept

I think Cars is better than Are Friends Electric and I Don't Like Mondays is better than Rat Trap. Message in a Bottle beats Walking on the Moon for me and both Blondie tracks are fantastic

The two Grease tracks are very interesting because Summer Nights from a musicals perspective is a brilliant piece of exposition and character introduction but where it should be judged as a pop song is a more difficult decision

With you on the strongest group, Police and Blondie but not with Numan and the Rats.

You're spot on with Summer Nights too. Both the grease songs were big floor fillers/fun numbers back in the day and still are in the occasional event of parties/discos populated by the over 50s. I like both but I don't love them. I bought Outlandos D'Amour, the Kick Inside, Parallel Lines and Tonic for the troops at the time, which account for a fair number of the above between them.

Surprisingly I've only seen two of this batch live.  It doesn't help that back then I'd got out of the habit of going to gigs as the crowd I mixed with were more into clubbing.

I had not yet realised that it's OK to go to gigs on your own, and even enjoyable.  So many missed opportunities :(

I had two opportunities to see Genesis during the and then there were three tour (1978, they were still considered cool at the time). Spurned them both. Local radio simulcast one of the shows, which I listened to and wished I'd gone to see it live. I might even have the tape somewhere.

I do not go and see a lot of live music but did see Genesis during the Invisible Tour (1987)

Knebworth in 78.

Drury Lane, at some point don't recall a date I'd have to look it up.

And a 3rd one I don't even remember where. I wonder what that says?

Oh and Gabriel at the Hammersmith Odeon. And Steve Hackett at Uxbridge uni campus or some such, don't think Uxbridge even has a uni, but there anyway.

Incidentally, Follow you Follow me from 'And then there were three' is their worst track ever in my view. I (like others) didn't much care for their 'pop' phase really, but there's plenty from even there I prefer to that ghastly shite.

I saw Genesis at least twice, back in the Peter Gabriel days.  Oxford (either the Town Hall or the New Theatre, possibly both) and Reading Festival.

I know it's Cliff, but that is such a good song.  I was going to vote it up, but it's obviously a lost cause.

Steve Hackett I saw in 1980(?), The Defector tour. one of my all-time favourite gigs.

I just looked up that Uxbridge one, turns out its 'Brunel University' Nov 9 1979. This was apparently the Spectral Mornings tour.

The Defector was indeed 1980 from the same source.

Having been part of ending Rod's chances in the last round, I have less guilt getting rid of this one. No, you're not, Rod.

Rod was eliminated unfairly with some great songs IMO, but not this one, which unfortunately has been an earworm for me today.

A really rather unpleasant song all round.  Not sexy in the least, and unclear if it's a love story or a one-night stand.

And "Da Ya" really bothers me.    The ya for you is passable, but I have never heard anyone say da for do.  That's just weird.

A brief interlude from hacking down Grease to kill Cliff Richard. Felt good.

Have you two ever actually heard that song, or have you just killed it because it's Cliff?   Even Cliff-haters like it.

Such a shame when we could all have ganged up on Boney M and pissed off Wee Jum. ;)
