At the Farmers' Market I bought:

 

Red Skies at Night cider

A tropical, fruit forward cider made with passionfruit and hibiscus. It has a rich finish and deep pink color.

This is supposed to be cognac, Licor 43, Yellow Chartreuse and advocaat.  I subbed in Jagermeister for the Chartreuse as it was the closest I have (knew that fete prize would come in handy).

It turned out very well.

 

There is a major shortage of Chartreuse liqueurs.  It is still made by monks in France, but they are unwilling to increase production to match demand.

My go to drinks are usually the Amaretto Sour, or the Bombay and Tonic, depending on my mood for sweet or bitter.  But I recently tried a drink called a Baby Shark and it was mmmmmm tasty. Bright blue in a tall with ice.  Now I can't seem to find the recipe, so I assume maybe it was just a special creation of that particular bar.

Probably contains blue curacao.  Try Difford's cocktail finder - enter blue curacao under liqueurs, and see what comes up. Results are images, so you can see at a glance which are the long drinks.

Thank you.  It defintitey had blue curacao.  Also vodka, but then I'm not sure if it was pineapple/lemon/grapefruit/another liquer?  I have two bartender's guides but not Difford's.  Will look it up.

Aha, adding vodka to the ingredients narrows it down to 44 results, most of which aren't long drinks.  So have a look and see if anything there sounds like it.

I would love it to be Adios Motherfucker :lol: but there's loads of things in that.

Had me a glass of an American Beer called Pabst Blue Ribbon. We buy it in Sweden. Norwegian Beer is made with flour/grains and American Beer with corn/maiz. Both are good. Most American Beer is gluten-free. Yea!

In Madeira I had a cocktail that was bright blue and I couldn't walk after drinking it. Good shit. Never found out the ingredients. Also a fan of caipirinha and malibu.

 

Been told I'm not allowed to get shitfaced on my new combination of meds, or else I'll get the big sad. Most people my age don't have a tipple before bed (double vodkas & cokes and tequila shots, more like) but that's how I'll have to drink for a while. Thanks for all the ideas in this thread!

A stunning couple of glasses of Loire Valley Sancerre. I'm such a wine wanker and I fucking hate myself for it so I'll stop short of describing it too elaborately but it's proper, proper crisp.

Having encountered PBR as the bluest of blue-collar beers in the US, it amused me when it was promoted in the UK as a 'craft beer' (by Molson Coors)

Custard Tart

Rum, advocaat, peach schnapps, lime juice

 

Well named as it looks like custard, is sweet but tart from the lime juice.  Lovely.

Recipe has physalis fruits muddled in the shaker but unsurprisingly I didn't have any, so I skipped that.  Doubled the quantities too, this is wasted on a shot.

Related: Coors Light had been $2 the past month in this one bar, so I had been ordering those whenever there. The crap beers are usually like $5 so I typically just upgrade to at least the $7 ones.

Happy Hour is illegal in Massachusetts, so drink deals are hard to come by!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces Galliano liqueur (Galliano L’Autentico)
  • 1 ½ ounces creme de cacao
  • 1 ½ ounces fresh real cream
  • For the garnish: fresh grated or ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Place the Galliano, creme de cacao, and cream in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 handfuls ice and shake until cold.
  2. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with fresh grated or ground nutmeg and serve.

This one is similar but also has orange juice.

 

I don't have Galliano, or any of the usually suggested alternatives.  I might try it with Licor 43 as that's also a herbal blend with vanilla.

True! It is definitely a Beer for the blue-collar working classes in the USA. American beers are becoming very popular in Scandinavia for those who have asthma, COPD and gluten allergies. (COORS Beer is popular with the Blue-collar classes as well in the USA.)

Ha, I also had to chuckle here.  Back in my college days, Pabst was one of a few beers that we commonly drank only because it was so affordable.  I'm remembering less than $3 a sixpack, along with Schaffer's and Mickey's.  But even so we considered it barely palatable.  If we had funds to spare, we would splurge on Michelob or Heineken.  I have heard that a similar marketing feat has occurred with the Aussie beer Foster's, which we enjoy as a decent import but I've heard it is considered the dregs in its home country.    Enjoy what you enjoy!
