Spade_Cooley 9,515 Posted April 10 Probably too early for the "Dying off the radar" thread, but while looking for something else I found out that the character actor Tom Stern died last month and it doesn't appear to have made it anywhere outside of his family's Facebook. Not to be confused with the Tom Stern who has a long history as cinematographer for Clint Eastwood movies, or Tom Stern the director of music videos by Marilyn Manson and Ice Cube, this Tom Stern was the lead in the 1971 namspolitation film Trip to Kill (billed ahead of Telly Savalas, Robert Vaughan and Burgess Meredith), but was also a mainstay villain-of-the-week in American TV throughout the 60s and 70s. Was also one of the endless "it could have been us!" residents of 10050 Cielo Drive prior to Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski taking up residence there. But not the same person as television writer Ron Weiner (wiki), whose father Howard Weiner (wiki) is an eminent neurologist. Surely not a coincidence though? Are the two Rons and two Howards somehow related? Cousins perhaps? The Hollywood Reporter obit doesn't help much. 1 1

Evil Grimace 359 Posted April 25 On 01/11/2023 at 19:00, Ulitzer95 said: Recent interview with Oscar-winning actress Lee Grant (wiki) from late September. Confirms she was born in 1925 (not the later years that are thrown around elsewhere online). After she tells the interviewer this and he doesn't react she responds with "Wait a minute, you’re supposed to react to that, kid! You’re supposed to say ‘What?! You’re kidding!’ Do your part. You’re supposed to react to that." Sounds quite sharp. A future centenarian? On 19/12/2023 at 21:39, Ulitzer95 said: Just did some research on this. I believe her death means that Lee Grant (wiki), 98, is the last survivor of the Hollywood Blacklist. Lee Grant features prominently in the Netflix series 'Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War'. She's in the second episode and discusses the McCarthy trials of Hollywood actors and actresses and its impact on her career and her blacklisting. She's well spoken, sharp and animated. If I didn't know about her age, it would be hard to believe this was someone in their late 90s. The series was released in March 2024. It was clearly filmed earlier as Daniel Ellsberg is in both the second and third episodes, with the third one acknowledging his death in June 2023 the credits. I suspect his parts were filmed prior to diagnosis and disclosure of his illness (pancreatic cancer), making it late 2022 or early 2023. Possibly Lee Grant's parts will filmed around this time.
