The hurricane did flood or damaged large parts of the Atlanta area. I haven't seen anything in particular about how his home was impacted though, but I suspect there may have at least been some damage to the surrounding area.

Plains is in the southern part of Georgia and quite far from Atlanta. I believe the center of the storm moved well to the east of Plains and avoided the worst wind.
