Left from the very first generation of Immortals:

1)Jimmy Carter (1924): the King of Kings. Among his achievements, he survived metastatic cancer in his 90s, severe brain hemorrhage and has been in hospice care for almost two years. Apparently stronger than ever. God mode.

2)Joanne Woodward (1930): advanced Alzheimer's since at least 2008, reportedly in hospice care last year. Top tier.

3)David Musuguri (1920): diabetes for years, multiple hospitalizations, in hospital for months last year. Top tier.

4)Saalumarada Thimmakka (1928, alleged 1910): multiple hospitalizations, survived "extremely critical conditions" in 2023, almost unheard since. Top tier.

...

Saalumarada Thimmakka hospitalised in ICU.

Mentioned in this thread previously - Tsuneo Watanabe, Japanese newspaper executive, dead aged 98.

Yes, one of my suggestions for the 2025 list.

Quite an interesting guy. Communist-turned media tycoon who called himself "the Dictator" due to his influence on politics and baseball and said he was delighted in having political parties under his control. Definitely helped shape Japan into what it is now.

He was completely sure he'd make it to 100 despite looking like a corpse these last 4 years. Apparently he had a fall earlier this month, went back to work and got pneumonia. Most sources say he died at a hospital but there are claims he was found dead in his office by his secretary. Would've QO'd.

Edit: Judging on social media reaction to his death, he seems to have been their Rupert Murdoch...

Wow, wasn't expecting it, he seemed to go on crooking forever. Some years ago he tried to assemble a political league of superelders. Himself, Parkash Singh Badal, Mulayam Singh Yadav and HD Deve Gowda. Only Deve Gowda left out of them.

may I suggest a new immortal : French TV Host Michel Drucker (b. 1942) mentioned a few times around here and a lot of times in French circles.

Currently hospitalized for a "bad sore throat" (what does that even mean?). First open-heart surgery in 2020 at 78 following infection of his heart and leg by a bacteria + stroke. Then again open-heart surgery in 2023 for infectious endocarditis of the valve. Constantly hospitalized for minor issues in the last 4 years. His own brother, Jean, died of heart attack at 61.

Looks frailer and frailer but still seems unsinkable. Will see.

His on-screen longevity makes him a top-immortal in France and is often joked about.

A new class of Immortals is to be announced within days. Before that, I'd like to review the top performances from this year.

1)Jimmy The King (1924)

image.jpeg.2ce60f6fcf967afddaa63eb001bb9f32.jpeg

Jimmy Carter is the Michael Myers of deadpooling, Every time you think it's impossible for him to survive, and yet the next year he is back with a vengeance. We left him with terminal cancer, with cerebral hemorrhage, in hospice care for two years. Still seems unstoppable and feeds on mango's obsession for him.

2)Saalumarada Thimmakka (1928)

Saalumarada Thimmakka: ಸಾಲುಮರದ ತಿಮ್ಮಕ್ಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಗಂಭೀರ; ಐಸಿಯುನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ

She was off the news for such a long time that we almost forgot about her. But no, goes to ICU with respiratory failure and critical condition and recovers again in a day or two.  Quite unbelievable.

3)Nritya Gopal Das (1938)

image.jpeg.ea5ebc33e7f50d686230545f7e85aa77.jpeg

Quite underrated performer, survived two hospitalizations in critical condition, and has been in failing health for five years now.

4)Jayapataka Swami (1948)

image.jpeg.53d5735008be07584f34c1ad782d2d7a.jpeg

This should be a mistake, he can't actually be alive.

5)Mahathir Mohamad (1925)

image.jpeg.b0b108f9e41b0e9f94ba670806983bd1.jpeg

Hospitalized twice, yet unsinkable.

6)Chavalit Yongchayudh (1932)

image.jpeg.25b39d4678d75d984638b4fff00dcce9.jpeg

Spent most of the year in hospital, was in extremely critical condition this month before miracolously recovering in a day.

7)Alexander Mitta (1933)

image.jpeg.26858bf71a6222c058ce660580ec3481.jpeg

Who would have guessed he would be still alive now? Every time it's a denial, that's how we like our Mitta.

8)Jean Marie Le Pen (1928)

image.jpeg.ad752d406cc6fab66440d3de0851863e.jpeg

Survived like a piece of cake his annual death rumour and a long hospitalization. Did you have doubts?

9)Wang Huo (1924)

image.jpeg.e8dbd8b4a7561bb22f0b0a8dd8ad1875.jpeg

The same year he became a widower of his close friend (no homo) Ma Shitu, he survived major heart surgery and raised from his sickbed within months.

10)Yu Miu-lin (1937)

image.jpeg.59f497e1d912e1859c0750f18852cdca.jpeg

Survived pneumonia (with a bit of media attention seeking), while suffering from leukemia and pulmonary fibrosis for years. Bah.

Manmohan Singh (1932-2024)

"Dhere is nodhing to do for Mr. Advani, he is exdremely cridical dis dime..." (Doctor at AIIMS)

"Mr. Manmohan, he is dead!" (The same doctor)

"I feel like I am 20 now, please discharge me out of this shithole" (LK Advani gets miracolusly cured by his rival's death)

"Dead? You mean... I though he was an actual wood puppet!" (Sonia Gandhi)

I honestly believe that history will be kinder to me...': 3 defining quotes of Manmohan Singh - BusinessToday

Age at death: 92

Known health issues: Open heart surgery in 2009, given 10 years to live at best due to extensive heart disease. Later developed diabetes and respiratory disease. Hospitalised in 2020 with heart failure. Hospitalised in 2021 with COVID. Hospitalised in 2021 in critical condition with dengue. Wheelchair bound and mostly unable to talk for years. Hospitalised in critical condition in 2024.

Cause of death: Killed by Advani's hitmen.

Alignment: He was PM of India for then long years, before the jolly tyrant known as Modi took power. Manomhan was a peaceful bureaucrat, strengthened economy and improved dipolmatic relations with Pakistan and China. He was continuosly criticized by BJP for being apparently maneuvered by Sonia Gandhi and being overall indecisive. His rabid archenemy was LK Advani, who defined him as "the weakest PM ever". Advani was destined to become PM, but his disciple Modi killed him like Supreme Lord Snoke. An anti corruption campaign meant the end of Singh's "power". Ironically, the day he dies his worst enemy gets discharged from the same hospital, despite being overdue as fuck.

Yes, I'm wondering what exactly is this mystery disease he's suffering from currently. Massive wounds and infections on his body as the family has mentioned already more than a month ago (pretty visible on his hands there) sepsis and has been in hospital since a biopsy over a month ago.

My guess is some form of leukemia with leukemia cutis but with his current condition and comorbidities whatever it is will not matter much deathpooling-wise, I'd be suprised if he's alive two weeks from now.

Chavalit suddenly looks much better and is off the high-flow cannula he was on earlier. Maybe not as imminent as I thought.

So King Bob has died for real. About 77 years after his time. The kingdom is in mourning, but a new king has to be sworn in. So finally it is...

V-MAR Ri Yong-mu!

Wait, I already did this joke. Come on, Kim, you'll admit this guy is boring as hell. It has to be someone else. Leslie Phillips? Tin Oo? Thich Nhat Hanh, who has been waiting for the last 80 years? Ehmmm, no. It is none other than....

KING JIMMY I!!!

Having survived everything from advanced cancer to serious falls to cerebral hemorrhages to urinary tract infections, Jimmy is our new Democrat king! Come on, Jimmy, build that Macon mausoleum!

Just my opinions, but there are four* names on drol's lists I consider above the others right now in terms of death-dodging

Woodward (in late stages of dementia in 2014) and Violeta Chamorro (brain tumors in 2011, osteoporosis for decades, enormous stroke in 2018 etc) are perhaps the only ones left I'd have already called top level immortals around 2018.

V. S. "ICU in 2017, hospice graduate 2019" Achuthanandan came a bit after. Saalumarada Thimmakka has a health history dating to 2010 but has really been in and out of hospital with everything since 2020.

(*Well, to be honest, five...but surely none of us wants "King Sidney"?)

I agree with Lafaucheuse's point here that the king/queen of immortals should preferably be someone genuinely famous and not some obscure Chinese/Indian politician that basically no one would know of outside of their countries. Having someone like Joanne Woodward instead of say Yang You as the immortal leader, it just makes sense you know.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!

image.jpeg.11459ab318631b26ad513db06804b04a.jpeg

2024 was characterized by the most shocking event in the history of deadpooling: the passing of our deity, of our supreme leader, of our Immortal King Jimmy Carter. He had survived metastatic cancer at 90, cerebral hemorrhage at 95, two years in hospice care at 99, mymango. And gets killed in the lamest year ever. That's not fair. And with him also mymango disappeared, as they were the same entity, like Derry and Pennywise.

Dry your tears anyway. Our King of three years has died. We need a new king. Or queen. Until now the king has been always chosen among the founding Immortals, so the choice was pretty straightforward....

image.jpeg.d93e8c89736797e7bb888c79c0b9523d.jpeg

KING VS!!!!

Congrats, Comrade, you really deserved to be K.... ahahah, come on, give us the crown back, you red bastard!

VS is a top notch Immortals, but would be an unpopular king. And I would avoid that. But I promise you will be king if you survived the next King. Or Queen. As the Queen is....

image.jpeg.993cfbe5221016402d8f2f1abfefc66f.jpeg

QUEEN JOANNE!!!

Ahahah, got you again! Nah, too much woman empowerment here. The time is not ripe yet. And Joanne does literally nothing, she just rots with dementia. But no hospitalization, no movement. We need an entertaining bastard who  gets in hospital with an average of three times a week. Aaaaand....

Jayapataka Swami | Today is the Bengali New Year, Poila Baisakh, and also the Tamil New Year, Puthandu. On April 9th, there was the Kannadigas and Telugus... | Instagram

KING JAYA!!!

He has survived just everything and every hospitalization is a show. He joined the Immortals in 2024, but he has been the top player since. Wish you a long good reign, full of hospitalizations!

I didn't expect that, but to be honest, I doubt anyone who's ever lived has had such a health history as I mentioned some time ago in the Hospitalised thread.

Spoiler

1960 - Suffering from "serious skin disease"

1973 - "Serious fever"

1989 - Jayapataka is attacked in Madrid with a knife, the attacker attempts to slash his throat and he suffers a major vein injury. From a blood transfusion, he gets Hepatitis C. Undergoes tracheotomy and spends a long time in ICU.

ca. 1995: Diagnosed with diabetes

23 Oct 2008: Jayapataka suffers a massive stroke, found unconscious in bed at 3:30am and has fallen into coma. Results of a scan indicate he has suffered a brain stem stroke and also has bleeding on two other locations on his brain. He suffers a cardiac arrest, resuscitated and his condition is said to be "extremely critical" on ventilator. Given ca. 1% possibility of survival.

c. Oct-Nov 2008: Undergoes enormous brain surgery.

25 Oct 2008: Jayapataka is conscious but not out of danger, his blood platelets are going down but his blood pressure and sugar level are under control.

26 Oct 2008: Jayapataka is diagnosed with chronic liver disease, is improving and comes out of coma.

27 Oct 2008: Jayapataka's blood pressure fluctuates, his platelets decrease further and blood sugar is unstable.

29 Oct 2008: His ventilator is removed, but placed again two hours later.

31 Oct 2008: Jayapataka can't breathe on his own, a tracheostomy is performed and connected to ventilator.

1 Nov 2008, 6pm: He is off ventilator, but still critical in ICU.

1 Nov 2008, 10pm: Jayapataka falls unconscious again

2 Nov 2008: Jayapataka is "very critical" on life support.

3 Nov 2008: "Improving", but only 5% conscious.

5 Nov 2008: Critical but stable.

6 Nov 2008: Bleeding has stopped, but Jayapataka's brain stem clot is inoperable and "needs to dissolve on its own". Not expected to survive.

~11 Nov 2008: Jayapataka is weaned off ventilator.

13 Nov 2008: Back on ventilator.

16 Nov 2008: Off ventilator for a few hours, back on ventilator as he was breathless and tired.
