Tempus Fugit 214 Posted April 4, 2006 Nobody, but nobody does chicken in a basket anymore, do they? I mean, even in West Cumbria it's so 1970s, And we've only got one gay pub! I just Googled to find out, and you'd be horrified at the number of restaurants (mainly all stateside) that have got chicken-in-a-basket on the menu. The term though has entered the lexicon of sneer as a definition for hackneyed performers.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted June 10, 2006 Did anyone actually hear anything about the Joe Longthorne concert? Wikipedia said he made a "triumphant return," but we all know how reliable Wikipedia is...
pulphack 6 Posted June 10, 2006 i'm just astounded that he's kept going so long. i love that story about him and the manager - there's a beckett play in there somewhere... how did this thread ever get so weird in so few pages? i know i'm not exactly on topic, but c'mon - longthorne is a resonably voiced old-skool belter who could do a few impressions. out of time and not exactly original, and noteable only for his amazing stamina in the face of the big C. i suppose we all realise that it won't actually be cancer that kills the bugger - he'll just fall down stairs or walk under a bus, quite unexpectedly. as for 'chicken-in-a-basket' being for Hackneyed entertainers - what about those from Homerton or Haringay? Godot 149 Posted October 30, 2006 For all Joe Longthorne watchers This site is giving regular updates. A few cancelled performances lately. His web site says he's spending Christmas in Paradise. Is this a hint?
MyBrainHurts2 4 Posted October 30, 2006 For all Joe Longthorne watchers This site is giving regular updates. A few cancelled performances lately. His web site says he's spending Christmas in Paradise. Is this a hint? The site claims that he has a cold...but deathlisters want to hear that he's gone cold. I guess some news about him being ill is better than nothing. Thanks for the find, Godot.

From the clues in your note I would guess you are a fan. He hasn't been too clever I'm afraid and yes there is a thread that I'm sure one of our kind administrators will merge with this. Welcome. It's not often we get someone quite so articulate. A refreshing change. Keep it up. all the best, Godot

Or are we to believe that once a person becomes ill, we're only permitted to print nice comments about them? I wonder if Saddam was to fall ill before his execution we'll have to give utmost sympathy and quote his previous judge's words in that he wasn't really a dictator, but that he just fell in with the wrong crowd I'm obviously not a Joe Longthorne fan and find his shows about as exciting as watching paint dry

I haven't had the opportunity to see him yet. I think he does most of his shows in Blackpool and I don't get over there so often. He's cancelled a few times recently. Any idea why? grobler 35 Posted December 6, 2006 Can I just say , that , as a life long (well...a couple of years) member of the Jo (Mr Entertainment) Longthorne official internet fan club (its a good way to find out about his health)....the buzz is that he is fairly ok . I have had him in numerous lists in the last couple of years....and I think its time to pass up on Joe and look elsewhere .

TLC 9 Posted December 7, 2006 Never mind Phantom 2000 people and more cant be wrong his shows are always fullhope your hand are getting better But more than 2,000 people have purchased 'Jive Bunny' records over the years. Collective stupidity and mass stupidity are still both stupidity at the end of the day. Not actually having a go at Joe on this occasion, just making the point that many more than 2,000 people can easily be wrong about the same thing at the same time. If not, the height of football crowd troubles in the 80's would be looked at as proof that the violence was the right thing to do at the time. After all, several thousand drunken raging testosterone-fuelled 'fans' can't be wrong, and they often played in front of packed stadium audiences of up to 40,000 people every week.
