maryportfuncity 10,653 Posted June 4, 2016 I'd say the clean sweep of headlines across the BBC site at the moment sorts out whether Ali is the biggest death of the year so far. Bowie and Prince didn't get that. It'd take the Queen to top it and/or a biggie assassination. Just sayin'

maryportfuncity 10,653 Posted June 4, 2016 I never knew Ali had Irish roots! Aye, not the strongest. There was a pointless question a while back about naming Ali opponents and one pointless answer was Al Blue Lewis who Ali beat in Dublin in 1972. There's a book called The Big Fight all about that bout and Ali in Dublin.
Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted June 4, 2016 Pornhub did a tribute. I'm sure that'll be of great comfort to his family
Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted June 4, 2016 Since she has outlasted Ali (and everyone else) does this mean we can proclaim Zsa Zsa the world heavyweight champion for life? PS - RIP, Mr Ali.

themaninblack 2,112 Posted June 4, 2016 Just watched the excellent BBC bio/obit on Ali. I don't think I've seen a documentary where so many contributors are referred to as "The Late..." The were more survivors on The World At War!
Deathray 2,940 Posted June 4, 2016 That documentary was excellent. Clear produced a while ago, or at least most of the interviews done a while ago - with a fair few dead contributors. So glad that amateur boxing has started to take head protection seriously. It's only a matter of time before pro boxing does, how many more wake up calls do they need? Well as pros will be knocking the fuck out of amateurs , without headguards, at the Olympics....quite a few I reckon. Eta... you do realise headguards are getting ditched as they are dangerous don't you??

Apparently: The change will result in a decrease in concussions, AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu predicted. How the fuck does that even work, maybe find some other head protection if it doesn't work. When football is finally on the brink of accept the repeated head trauma and Parkinsonism link. boxing is going backwards?

CoffinLodger 1,248 Posted June 4, 2016 There's not many celebs have an ex President (Bill Clinton) speaking at their funeral, showing just what a massive figure he was.Looks like it's going to be a state funeral in all but name !

Pro apartheid The beeb going over the top in praising a famous brown person? SHURELY NORT Now you mention the Nation of Islam I'm starting to remember why I never liked him that much. He should get credit for leaving it but you can't do that without admitting he joined it obvs. For a start, most beebers dont even know what the nation of Islam is. They dont even know the difference between a religion and a race tho,so thats not surprising. On the face of it some might say it was a bit irrational of me to always like Tyson way more than Ali when he wasn't the one who ranted "I want to eat his children, all praise to be Allah".. but whatever

themaninblack 2,112 Posted June 5, 2016 You have to take your hat off to Ali. That was quality timing. Middle of the year, weekend, news coming overnight and fuck all else going on so the tributes could roll forth. If Ali died on 24th June, he'd have the Euro referendum to contend with... That is how a celebrity should pass away!
The Happy Reaper 223 Posted June 5, 2016 Just watched the excellent BBC bio/obit on Ali. I don't think I've seen a documentary where so many contributors are referred to as "The Late..." The were more survivors on The World At War! I missed the first ten minutes but watched the rest of it. I loved the clip at the very end (during the credits) where Ali said, "My only fault is that I don't realise how great I really am!"
