in eternum+ 22 Posted April 11, 2006 I think the dangers of obesity would be best displayed by airing this person's autopsy on television. I want to see that 8lb, black, fatty liver. There is a (relatively) new section in von Hagens' Bodyworlds exhibit showing body slices of super-obese bodies vs. non-super-obese bodies. If I remember correctly, they're lateral (?... head-to-toe is what I mean) slices so that you can see the effects of the fat on the internal organs. No doubt seperately plastinated organs will follow along shortly.

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted April 26, 2006 Indeed he did, I hear the crematorium are down to the bottom half of his one remaining leg and his relatives are working double shifts to pay off the gas bill for the man's funeral.
Guest Guest Posted July 17, 2006 Some of you may have wondered such things as "How can a person on food stamps afford that much food?" or, "Who are the 'enablers' bringing them food?" While I can't speak for all fat people, in my sister's case, there were dozens, if not hundreds of enablers. Carol Yager (Fat Carol, to everyone who knew her), was very popular in our small-ish community (~25,000 people). She had more friends than anyone else I've ever met, and her life was one big non-stop party. Each day would see many visitors, who would usually come equipped with a bottle of wine, a couple of joints, a bucket of chicken, a pizza, or whatever, to share. Up until her last, she always managed to have one or more boyfriends. Whatever she may have lacked in physical appearance, she more than made up for in personality. To know her was to love her. She was very intelligent and witty, and could make anyone laugh at any time. People just wanted to be around her, and now that she's gone, she is truly missed. You can mock her all you want, but Carol packed more life into her 33 years than most of you will see in 80. --Terry Yager

You can mock her all you want, but Carol packed more life into her 33 years than most of you will see in 80. To tell you the truth I'd never heard of this woman until now. She may have laughed in public, but I'm quite sure she was deeply depressed inside. Thus she got very fat. The thing that disturbs me most is your denial. You claim that everyone loved her, shared food with her etc. Well congratulations, you should hold yourself responsible for her death. Being a extremely big boned person I will asume that, as many overweight people do, she craved acceptance. Here comes another sad fact, her friends were only there for the whole 'fat Carol' hypeand fame. She probably felt that if she lost the weight she would lose her friends to become just your average fat blokette. People clung to Carol for what little fame she had and in the end, it was that fame that killed her. You call yourself friends and family? You may as well have stabbed her in the heart! (End of rant)

It's all very well claiming how heart broken you were at her death but what did you do for her when she was alive? Were you one of those embarrassed by her? Don't believe everything you read on daWeb. Reporters, etc put whatever spin they want to on thier articles. Carol spent her last days surrounded by those who loved her the most, and as for trying to keep her away from what she loved, might as well try and stop a train wreck. In the end, Carol was a full-grown adult, and no one could stop her from doing what she wanted to do. It was only the last couple of years when she went rapidly downhill, and, at the same time, began to be exploited by people with thier own agendas. Meanwhile, Carol loved all the attention. and did whatever she could to further that end. She was never ashamed of herself, so how can I be ashamed of her? I just thought you all should know that she was loved in spite of her 'flaws'. --T
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted July 18, 2006 The worlds most obese people alive, and deceased. Fat Carol reigns unchallenged at 1600lb on top of the list. A few others - including Mr Currant - continue to breathe. See the USA reigns unchallenged in its ability to produce these people. Re Jerry Currant; Can't find much about him on the Internet but Wikipedia lists him as b1938 and none of the top hits actually say he's dead. If he isn't he has fame, old age and the complications of having been massive.
MyBrainHurts2 4 Posted July 18, 2006 See the USA reigns unchallenged in its ability to produce these people. I wonder if there's a correlative study around somewhere comparing average adult weight with the number of fast food restaurants per capita by country. I live in a country of fat fuggers (not to say everyone here is one). I kinda feel out of place in the US, being 5'8" and 145 lbs. Almost makes me want to chow down on a 12 piece bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken three times a day.
Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted July 18, 2006 When I was a Guinness Book of World Records spotter as a kid I always remember it was Robert Earl Hughes who held the record for heaviest human. I also recall there was a set of rotund twins, or maybe just brothers, called Billy and Benny Something (McCreary maybe?), who rode around on (presumably reinforced) scooters. But that lot is positively tiny in comparison to Carol Yager. She was making solid progress toward attaining the mythical status of Fat Bastard in Austin Powers 2, who clocked in at a memorable "metric ton". Not sure if there are any ice hockey fans out there (Canadian Paul, maybe?), but I always wondered if you got one of these giant fatties, put them in an XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL jersey and wedged them into the goal, whether they would take up every square inch of goal area (6ft wide x 4 ft high) and therefore make it impossible for the other team to score. Or is there some rule you have to at least occasionally be standing upright on skates?
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted July 18, 2006 Cowboy Ronnie, you're assuming the fatty could stay conscious throughout an Ice Hockey game, and also rouse the energy to get on the ice. If s/he were hit in the face by a puck and collapsed, scoring would also be easy. Re fat in general I think an interesting statistic would be the average weight of parents at the birth of their children taken over a period of years. I have this theory that if we keep getting fatter there will come a point where the average weight of a couple trying to conceive will be so high that penetrative sex, and conception will become increasingly unlikely. Probably driving more couples to the solace of binge eating and drinking. This could be how mankind ends.....not with a bang but a Wimpy! (arf).

Or is there some rule you have to at least occasionally be standing upright on skates? Well, I don't know about the feasability of actual increased bodyweight, but the amount of padding ice hockey goalies wear pretty much doubles-if-not-triples their size anyway. Some of them fill the net to the point where you gotta wonder how the puck ever gets past them... When I was in Uni the first time I played on my faculty's broomball team (a kind of ice hockey, senza ice skates, and with brooms and a ball instead of sticks and a puck). One of the other teams' goalie was this massive guy who would just stand in front of their net and literally not move the entire game. It was impossible to get anything past the bastard. They won the league that year. Bloody engineers.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted July 19, 2006 Eternum, yer post and the avatar picture suggests a marketing opportunity. Imagine it, an unbeatable Broomball team composed entirely of darts players. The athletes on the other side could run themselves ragged the whole game to no purpose before the darts lads - sponsored by a major beer - advanced in the closing stages to pass their exhausted opponents and score a plodding goal to seal the points. Or is there some rule you have to at least occasionally be standing upright on skates? I asked my dad when I was really young why they wouldn't just put a big fat guy in front of the net because, as ie mentioned, the padding would really seal the day. His answer was "because they'd crack the ice." Not sure if that's true, but I've never really questioned it. As a former fat guy and a current guy who... uh... skates on ice... though, I'm guessing it's not true. After all, the Zambonis go over them all the time, and they must weigh a ton (though granted, they are balanced). I would suspect that there is a reason, as I've always wondered that myself, but I've never gotten a concrete answer. Maybe too much for health coverage? Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted July 26, 2006 Indian Monster Eater retires That's monster eater as in eating a lot, not someone who eats monsters. Nice story, too bad about the doctors' advice or else he might have merited some discussion to be a future DL candidate. I like how his nickname was "Theeta" - very apt, even in Hindi. One part sounds suspicious though, the bit where they describe the large quantities of rice he ate in "bucket" terms. Are we to believe a restaurant, either to cater to his request, or to make a point about what a disgusting pig he was, actually served him rice in a series of buckets? Surely it would have been placed in a large bowl. I think perhaps the journalist is taking some M. Creosotesque liberties in his writing.

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 10, 2006 The King of Tonga was once listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's heaviest recorded monarch. He tipped the scales back then at 462lbs, 33 stone. I.e. roughly Andy Fordham after he's swallowed Kylie Minogue whole. Thought he deserved an honourable mention here.
