Dead Pop Stars

Recommended Posts

Daniel Sahad, lead singer of the Austin band Nané, died Sunday night. He was 29. The news was announced on the band's social media accounts on Monday.

A supersonic five-piece that performed minor miracles of funk and soul, Sahad and his band were rising stars on the Austin music scene who topped Austin360's list of Austin artists to watch in 2022.

Tony Thompson (just thought I'd stick his name here so that search will find it and we don't get duplicates).

The NME have their facts incorrect in the link given. According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles, "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" only made it to No.43 in the UK charts. It did reach No.1 in the US though. Their only other UK hit was "She's Playing Hard to Get" (No.55 in 1992).

By the way, what do we think of the NME's cover photo of Beth Ditto in the link? :o

From the Dead of 2007 thread above. The original link to Thompson's death (not quoted) is as dead as Thompson, as OP originally thought it was a drug overdose, but turns out Thompson died of poisoning from a faulty air-con unit.

Anyhoo, there's a report here (how reliable I dunno, but the sources quoted seem genuine) of original member of Hi-Five Roderick Pooh Clark's death aged 49 here: https://icecreamconvos.com/roderick-pooh-clark-original-hi-five-member-passes-away-at-49/

A Billboard number one as reported above, but only 43 in the UK in June 1991:

Clark had been paralysed in a car accident in 1992.

Watching Top of the Pops: The Story of 1995, glad for them to be up to a year I can remember and know where the lies and massive revisions are. Anyway, David McAlmont looks like shit and not just "enjoyed himself a bit too much in the 90s" shit.

That was one of the most obvious disconnect moments in the (very enjoyable) series between what was clearly big in music that year for music journos and what was big for singles buying kids at the time, I thought. I'd never heard of the act and I'm quite into music - hell, I was quite into Suede at the time!

Still worth a mention as I would say he is more well-known than she is.

Some might say Paul Arthurs got a touch of cancer, but it's treatable so he's gonna roll with it.
