maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 12, 2006 My 1000th post and it strikes me - in the great community spirit we have here - as worth celebrating. I think a suitable party would involve me taking on all the surviving WW1 veterans in a massive fist-fight. If they could make their way to the car park of The Miners Arms in the windswept hamlet of Prospect for 9-00 tonight we'll get the ruck going, put a few bruises on each other, link arms and decide we were best mates all along. It should be fair. I've got age on my side but it's little old fiesty me against a mob and Harry Patch for sure has killed before. Something I've never done. What other fitting celebrations are there for DL stayin' power?
DevonDeathTrip 2,360 Posted January 12, 2006 Congratulations on your 1000th post!! I thought someone should have the decency to reply, after all this is a major achievement and shows considerable dedication to all things deathly. I can only dream of post twuntdom. maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 12, 2006 BHB you're a few short of a twunting but from yer posting name to your ready wit, I think you've got the staying power.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 12, 2006 Congrats! Your tireless efforts to revive important dying threads are a boon to all that is deathlist!
maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 12, 2006 Point taken, mind you the tireless efforts of the medical profession to revive important dying people are a constant source of frustration to some of us posting here.

maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 12, 2006 Right, I'm off to The Miners, to put some licks on Harry Patch and his pals. It's raining, hope that doesn't cut the crowd numbers in the car park.
Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 12, 2006 Congratulations Mary. You bring smiles to my face.. There are alot of reasons to stay here and one of mine is because I love it. It gives me people to talk to when I don't want to talk to people in my own life and it just gets me away.
Brinsworth House Baiter 12 Posted January 12, 2006 BHB you're a few short of a twunting but from yer posting name to your ready wit, I think you've got the staying power. Aw, shucks. This is actually the nicest thing anyone's said to me all day! Which makes me wonder whether I should go out more or stay in more.
maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 12, 2006 On tonight's evidence - stay in. I went down the pub, stood in the rain for 15 minutes and not one of them WW1 veterans showed. I'll let off Claude Schules since he lives in Oz but Harry Patch, Henry Allingham and the rest are a disgrace. Honestly, you turn 100, get an honorary degree and lose your bottle. With an attitude like that how did we win the first world war? Had a couple of drinks and came home.
Godot 149 Posted January 12, 2006 Suppose you survived the Titanic, faught in the First World War, then featured as a humble munchkin in the Wizard of Oz. Surely that would be enough, hypothetically speaking?
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 12, 2006 Suppose you survived the Titanic, faught in the First World War, then featured as a humble munchkin in the Wizard of Oz. Surely that would be enough, hypothetically speaking? Who can forget the much feared Munchkin regiment of WWI, They just walked under the barbed wire into those Kraut trenches. maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted January 13, 2006 Many thanks for all the good wishes, much appreciated. Especially sweet since the WW1 veterans failed to show for the party last night. Don't want to get all luvvie on yers so let's let this thread slowly sink to oblivion where even I won't go to resurrect it and get down to the serious business of discussing death amongst the rich and famous and amusing ourselves as we abuse Richard O' Sullivan.
