Happens more than you’d think. Usually an undiagnosed heart condition combined with strenuous exercise.

Atanas Golomeev was born in Sofia and died aged 76 on Aug/12. He is the most decorated Bulgarian basketball player of all time. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players, in 1991. In 2019, he was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Golomeev participated in five EuroBasket competitions (1969, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1977). In EuroBasket 1973 and EuroBasket 1975, he was the tournament's top scorer, scoring 156 and 160 points respectively. He earned EuroBasket All-Tournament Team selections four times, in 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1977.

Tonino Zorzi was born in Gorizia and died at the age of 88  in 19/aug ,in the same place, the Italian basketball player, has been a member of the Italia Basket Hall of Fame since 2011. He was named the best player of all time for Pallacanestro Varese, As a coach, he won the Cup Winners' Cup with Partenope Napoli in 1970  . He achieved 5 promotions from Serie A2 to Serie A1: three with Reyer Venezia Mestre (1976, 1981, 1986), one with Viola Reggio Calabria (1989) and Pallacanestro Pavia (1991). an older edition (1955), that post is now held by Al Inniss (top scorer in 1959) (born 1936 in the USA)

Sergei Babkov was born in Novosibirsk and died at the age of 56 on 21/aug, was a Russian professional basketball player, top scorer in the German League in 1994. won silver medals at the 1994 FIBA World Championship (in the gold medal game, he led all scorers with 22 points) and at the 1998 FIBA World Championship.

Coolidge Ball (great name for a basketball player), the first African-American athlete to play any sport at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), dead at 70. Ball was a Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Ole Miss Athletic Hall of Fame inductee. A statue of him stands outside the Ole Miss basketball arena.

Ludovic Vaty was born in Abymes and died in Toulouse at the age of 34, the French basketball player played for his country's national team in 2012 and for the youth teams achieved great prominence, in 2013 he was forced to end his career after the discovery of a heart disease incompatible with high-level sports practice

Basketball coach Brendan Malone, best known for winning back-to-back NBA Championships as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990, died at 81 years:

Giambattista Cescutti was born in Udine and died in the same place after being run over by a car at the age of 84 on October 20, he played for Triestina, won the Scudetto in 59 with Simmenthal Milano, he also played for Victoria Pesaro (where he was twice the highest scorer in the series A), With Ignis Varese he won the 1964 Scudetto, the 1966 FIBA Intercontinental Cup and the 1967 FIBA Saporta Cup. With the Italian National Team he participated in the 1963 FIBA World Championship and the 1963 and 1965 EuroBasket, as a coach notably winning a Swiss Basketball League and a Swiss Cup with SP Federale Lugano, and achieving promotion from Serie A with Associazione Pallacanestro Udinese

Walter Davis reportedly dead aged 69. Played for the Phoenix Suns from 1977-1988, then the Denver Nuggets from 1988-1991. A six time NBA All-Star, he was also on the Gold Medal winning USA Team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
