Falkekopf 50 Posted March 11, 2013 Her Maj has now cancelled all engagements this week where she's not sitting within shuffling distance to the karzi. Time to apply the royal bung I would've thought! ( Sorry, wrong end!)
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 11, 2013 Yeah, but we shouldn't get that excited just yet; she still plans to make a speech tonight. On the other hand, Philip is now obliged to endure today's draughty church-service in snowbound London.
time 8,611 Posted March 11, 2013 Her Maj has now cancelled all engagements this week where she's not sitting within shuffling distance to the karzi. Time to apply the royal bung I would've thought! ( Sorry, wrong end!) According to the BBC, she'll attend a reception this evening and hopes to attend some scheduled engagements later in the week. The Queen hopes to undertake some of her official engagements planned for the rest of this week," the statement said.BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said the Queen, 86, saw a doctor on Monday morning and the decision was taken that it would be best if she did not sit through an hour-long Church service. He added that the statement suggested that she may miss other engagements this week. Officials insist the Queen's health problems are "nothing serious " and "nothing to fret about", our correspondent said.

Doesn't the Queen only have six months to go anyway according to the globe, it would only be natural to prepare now? Although her genetics would indicate she's got a good 10-15 years left. I do think it's about time Philip gracefully left now though.

She may not be as opinionless as you imagine: http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/jan/14/secret-papers-royals-veto-bills I understand that, constitutionally, she has the power to veto laws but the fact that the newspaper could only find out where she has intervened by citing the Freedom of Information Act is a bit of a cause for concern. Where is the transparency there? Down here in Australia, the Governor-General (the Queen's local representative) has become more outspoken on a few issues lately and I don't think she'd have done that without the palace's approval.
