DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted September 22, 2006 Good work CP. And good luck to whoever picked the "Transsexuals and Transgendered" theme team! I'm hoping that the firing squad in Bali will deal with one of my picks before too long.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted September 22, 2006 Great stuff, some interesting picks suggesting mucho midnight oil turned to smoke. Am I right in assuming a certain One Shot Paddy is behind the Tankslappers? Also, does Thatcher count as a Science and Religion member on the basis of her chemistry degree? Dodgy I'd say, I mean, I've read several lengthy books with no pictures but it doesn't make me - like - a professor. A quote from Maggie's Wiki page, She graduated with a second-class degree and worked as a research chemist for British Xylonite and then J. Lyons and Co., where she helped develop methods for preserving ice cream. She was a member of the team that developed the first soft frozen ice cream. She was also a member of the Association of Scientific Workers.
Guest Bystander Posted September 22, 2006 Excuse me! Great set of teams, great themes, then I come to one called "Old and In the way". So the theme is that they're old I presume MPFC. Stuck your neck out there then.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted September 22, 2006 Excuse me! Great set of teams, great themes, then I come to one called "Old and In the way". So the theme is that they're old I presume MPFC. Stuck your neck out there then. MPFC's theme was 100+ years old with a Wikipedia page before the contest. It was a very contentious theme that I considered giving the thumbs down to, but I'm a bit curious to see how it'll play out.
Rotten Ali 600 Posted September 22, 2006 Should any of the other 18 of us like to see who's picked who, I'm now able to disclose my 20 names for those who are in the least bit interested to know. Order of Canada, Leonard Cohen, David Foster, Lynn Johnston, Gorgon Lightfoot, Antonine Maillet, Robert A. Mundell, Christopher Plummer, John C Polanyi, Charles Taylor & John Turner. Ronnie Biggs, James Brown, Allen Carr, David Crosby, Freddy Fender, Stephen Hawking, Brian Mulroney, Luciano Pavarotti, Ariel Sharon & Liz Taylor. All picks are 84 or under to qualify for full points, (with four being eligible for cartoon points) and the theme team majored out on famous old Canadians to try for the additional Canadian points tally. RA - in the Hall of Teams, if you scroll down to the bottom you can click on a the Team Names and it will take you to a page that shows you who they picked. By the way, I keep forgetting to mention this, but if anyone wants a picture of a little blurb, now would be the best time to send it.

Rotten Ali 600 Posted September 22, 2006 Looks good - had a quick glance at all the teams and think that Football Fan, Slave to the Grave and Windsor have got strong teams. Will be interesting. PS to Tempus Fugit - about time to check who's got the win from the IM 20 name private head to head contest on DDP points - thinks its up on the 27th Sept. Mine were:- Ronnie Biggs Ladybird Johnson Charlton Heston Aaron Spelling 4pts Liz Taylor Billy Graham Ross Davidson (eastenders) ex pres Gerald Ford John Spencer 5pts Tammy Faye (Bakker) Messner Charles Haughey 4pts August Wilson 5pts Jerry Lewis David Crosby Jerry Falwell Ibrahim Rugova 5pts Little Richard Suharto King Sihanouk John K. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted September 22, 2006 Excuse me! Great set of teams, great themes, then I come to one called "Old and In the way". So the theme is that they're old I presume MPFC. Stuck your neck out there then. Well CP had the team well in advance, a real act of faith on my part considering the average age. Given the bonus points for porn stars, Canadians and the rest I thought it worth risking this lot, since their low individual value acts as a kind of balance to all the other temptations on offer. They'll generate very few points each when they die but like an old anything I conceived them more as a slow but sure means of getting somewhere. I'll tell you now, if everyone of these bastards is breathing in a year's time I'll seriously consider my position hereabouts. If CP sez it's okay, then it is. You'd have to give MPFC Jr some credit for knowing who the three oldest living persons were. The whole caper was inspired when I realised the world's third oldest person is Canadian. I think the average age of the team clocks in somewhere around 105. So it'll take a couple of them to match AIDS riddled Canadian pornster Lara Roxx. Meaning, I'd say, it's fair. TBH I have a hunch the Never Came To Maryport team might clock up more points than the oldsters anyway, some of that lot have months at most.

Lady Grendel 139 Posted September 22, 2006 Great cpdp, I thoroughly enjoyed perusing the teams and the theme teams, for me Carol Anne's 'headbangers team' is an inspired choice, I never even though of CC Deville, but a great pick. I don't see any problem with mpfc's choice, it boils down to 'people over 100 with there own Wiki page', the rules allow it and so does CP, nothing wrong with that, unfortunately he will probably beat my own 'James Bond' theme, but at the end of the year isn't he obliged to buy the rest of us a few drinks if he wins? Good Luck to the rest of the entrants, I'll see you at the finishing block (I'll be the one with the donkey!).

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted September 23, 2006 Lady G, it's miles for most of you to The Miners if I do win. Personally I'd be surprised if my oldsters cream every team. But it's gonna make it interesting. I did consider a similarly sick squad made up entirely of amputees but couldn't assemble enough likely candidates. Also famous Canadian limbless types likely to die in the next twelve months are very scarce.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted September 23, 2006 A number of you have offered to help me with the Hall of Candidates. Unfortunately, since I already have all the pictures for the candidates, there's not too mcuh that can be done to help me (boy, if I had a nickel for every time I heard that...) Anyhow, for those who are interested, I've compiled the list of those chosen candidates eligible for the Cartoon Bonus: THE SIMPSONS (+1): Tom Hamilton Elizabeth Taylor David Crosby James Brown Paul Anka Harry Morgan Donald Sutherland Pat Summerall John Goodman 50 Cent Frank Gehry Stephen Hawking Michael Jackson KING OF THE HILL (+1): James Brown Pamela Anderson Tom Petty FAMILY GUY (+2): Pat Summerall Leif Garrett Ron Jeremy SOUTH PARK (+3): Ozzy Osborne I'm pretty sure that list in comprehensive, but I suppose if anyone wanted to verify my work they could. Now I just have to figure out who's Belgian and who's a Porn Star...
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted September 23, 2006 If the ten ton-up candidates on my Old and in the Way thread could be persuaded into my work-in-progress porno masterpiece; 'Longevity Lube Action' would they qualify for a bonus point, or do they have to have made their contribution before the competition started? For any catagory on the CPDP, as soon as the person falls into that catagory, they get the extra points. So if anyone gains honourary Ethopian Citizenship, stars in a porn movie or does a guest voice on King of the Hill over the course of the next 12 months, their point value will increase. Rotten Ali 600 Posted September 24, 2006 Don't I get 5 points for D'Abreu, Anderson and D'Arcy Hart for being unique picks? Hay TF, I never took that into account and if I did now I think you win by 2 points. So if I don't get another hit in the next few days then I don't think you get these extra points! Look - most of your team are about 100 years old, so I think I've done well to stay with you. Appeals to Mr Rude Kid and Siegfied Baboon please.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted September 25, 2006 Noticed that Snoop Dogg was in an episode of King of the Hill. That'll make him worth an extra point. Also, I got a late entry from "Captain's Log" and, since they only submitted a theme team, I've accepted it, for various reasons. I'll add them to the Hall of Team eventually. In other news, I've done A-E on the Hall of Candidates, which you can check out from the link on the front page. If anyone's that bored, they're welcome to check those candidates out (there's about 70ish of the 259 up).

Well done, young CP! Fine effort. Alas, two things I noticed negatively - when I checked last night, Madam Defarge's team link didn't work and also it says with some of the chosen ones that so & so has selected them at the top, but a different team below - I think there were a few, but Lansana Conte (I think) was one?? Thanks OoO! But save your accolades for when I've got every letter of the alphabet up, right now I feel my effort is a bit lackluster. Fixed the team link and Conte. If you (or anyone else for that matter) see a mistake like that let me know, easy to fix, impossible to spot when you're doing a whole bunch at once. I promise to do at least one letter a day, more on days where I have more time (ie. not Tuesdays, Wedensdays or Thursdays). Tonight I'll add "F" to the Hall of Candidates and "Captain's Log" to the Hall of Teams.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted September 27, 2006 F**k. OK, now I need some help. So I had uploaded A-I on the Hall of Candidates, which represents about half of the candidates thusfar. Then I realized that CarolAnn's selection of John Inman wasn't on the main list, which wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that there are now 120+ html files that don't have him listed. Here's what I need help with. I need someone (or a group of people - maybe to split up the work) to go through each html file and insert the following code (everything between the quotations, including the spaces with the included spaces) immediately after the | of David Icke: " <a href="http://www.landpirates.net/tchir/InmanJ.html">J. Inman</a> | " If anyone could help me with that, that would be muchly appreciated, since I'm exceedingly frustrated that I missed that. Oh, and you don't have to do that for 50 Cent, since that was the one I tested the code on. It DOES need to be done on John Inman's page, however.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted September 28, 2006 I'd be happy to help, where do these html files dwell? Thanks to TF, my progress on the Hall of Candidates will be back on track by tomorrow. I feel a little guilty, since I give him a teeny bit more than half of the work (by like, 3 files), so I have updated my signature accordingly. Also, breaking news is rather amusing this time.
