honez 79 Posted January 16, 2010 This was the weather here between Xmas and the New Year. Hot, humid and wet. I nipped out at lunchtime with my tripod and camera and took this photo just around the corner from where I "work".
CarolAnn 926 Posted January 17, 2010 Imagine that scene every day. Welcome to Britain. Ummm, no. This is why I don't live in Seattle, either, despite the fact that it has coffeehouses on every block. Most of the days here in Texas are bright and sunny (and freaking hot) and I like it that way. It's a little warmer today - 56F/15C - and still overcast, but at least it's dry. I can see my car from here! lol Bloody hell, a Hospital car park that isnt full!! Over here, that picture would have captured a whole plethora of cars going round and round and round and round and.... I take it you dont have to sell your left kidney to pay for the parking space either? Oh, CA, nearly forgot. I hope your car is that white 1960s Ford (Falcon?) say yes, dont let me down!! LG I should have started my rant with..."This applies to everywhere, except Scotland.." I quite understand the terror of running out of ciggies, however, I trust your bucket was still kept full of wine. This hospital has five parking garages. This is the one in the back, which is why it isn't full...it's attached to the section of the hospital that has the emergency room, though, so maybe it isn't full because I took that picture in the middle of the afternoon. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but my car is the red Jeep Patriot that's catty-cornered to the right of the Ford. I need room for the cocker spaniels, you know. lol

Gunjaman5000 30 Posted February 5, 2010 This little 'gem' is currently doing the rounds amoung the locals I work with. More accurate than funny (unless you've lived in these here parts that is), I thought I'd share nonetheless. Enjoy. DIARY OF A POMMIE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA . August 31 - Just got transferred with work from Leeds UK to our new home in Port Hedland , Western Australia . Now this is a town that knows how to live! Beautiful, sunny days and warm, balmy evenings. I watched the sunset from a deckchair by the pool yesterday. It was beautiful. I've finally found my new home. I love it here. September 13 - Really heating up now. It got to 31 today. No problem though. Living in air-conditioned home, driving air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a sun-worshipper. September 30th - Had the back yard landscaped with tropical plants today. Lots of palms and rocks. No more mowing lawns for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here. October 10th - The temperature hasn't been below 35 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least today it's windy though. Keeps the flies off a bit. Acclimatizing is taking longer than I expected. October 15th - Fell asleep by the pool yesterday. Got third degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed three days of work. What a dumb thing to do! Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. October 20th - Didn't notice Kitty (our cat) sneaking into the car before I left for work this morning. By the time I got back to the car after work, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stuck to the upholstery. The car now smells like Whiskettes and cat shit. I've earned my lesson though: no more pets in this heat. October 25 - This wind is a bastard. It feels like a giant fuckin' blow dryer. And it's hot as hell! The home air conditioner is on the blink and the repair man charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needs to order parts from fuckin' Perth .... October 30th - The temperature's up around 40 and the parts still haven't arrived for the fuckin' aircon. Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. Bloody $600,000 house and we can't even go inside. Why the hell did I ever come here? November 4 - Finally got the ol' aircon fixed. It cost $1,500 and gets the temperature down to around 25 degrees, but the humidity makes it feel about 30. Stupid repairman. November 8 - If one more smart arse says 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to fuckin' throttle him. Fuckin' heat! By the time I get to work, the car's radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking fuckin' wet and I smell like baked cat! November 9 Tried to run some errands after work, wore shorts, and sat on the black leather upholstery in the ol' car. I thought my fuckin' arse was on fire. I lost two layers of flesh, all the hair on the backs of my legs and my fuckin' arse. Now the car smells like burnt hair, fried arse and baked cat! November 10 - Weather report! It might as well be a fuckin' recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny, Hot and fuckin' sunny! It's been too hot to do anything for two fuckin' months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. November 15 - Doesn't it ever rain in this damn fuckin' place? Water restrictions will be next, so my $5,000 worth of palms might just dry up and blow into the fuckin' pool. The only things that thrive in this hell-hole are the fuckin' flies. You don't dare open your mouth for fear of swallowing half a dozen of the fuckers! November 20th - Welcome to HELL! It got to 45 fuckin' degrees today. Now the air conditioner's gone in my car. The repair man came to fix it and said, 'Hot enough for you today?' I had to spend the $2,500 mortgage payment to bail me out of jail for assaulting the stupid fucker. Fuckin' Port Hedland! What kind of sick, demented fuckin' idiot would want to live here! December 1 - WHAT!!!! The first day of Summer!!!! You are fuckin' kidding!

time 8,595 Posted February 10, 2010 Funny weather we're having today. When I got up (uncommonly early at 0815) the sky was clear, as were the roads. Relaxed in the bath for an hour, had my breakfast then opened the curtains to be confronted by a blizzard. Honestly, I couldn't see the houses the other side of the street. 10 minutes later, the snows gone, the sun is shining! I looked on the website of my 'local' newspaper and it gives todays forecast as 'Clear Spells'; not very helpfully, it doesn't specify what the weather will be like outside of those spells. No Honez, old chap, it was seven On the eighth occassion I was finally arrested for indecent exposure I'm going to make one observation - no, two, actually. Firstly, I will maintain to my dying day that the reason women can't estimate length worth a damn is because they have always been told that this: ----------------> is 12.5" inches. Secondly, I am very disappointed that no one asked me how the new Chinese place was. I mean, damn, you guys might find yourselves in Lewisville, TX, one day and be starving to death and not have any idea how it was AND FIND THAT I'M NOT CHECKING THE DEATHLIST FORUMS OR ANSWERING MY PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then how would you feel? Hmmmm? Pretty silly, I would think, and you'd have to go to that Tex-Mex restaurant down the street and get heartburn.

deadsox 894 Posted February 27, 2010 We had a windstorm with up to 60 mph winds which has knocked out power for thousands in northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire. Our power's been out since Thursday night so I came to my daughter's house to check out Death League news. We have a generator for heat, fridge, freezer and a couple of lights. There was a huge fire at Hampton Beach that took out a whole block.

Bloody hell, do they build power lines of cardboard in Massachusetts etc. ? That's a measly force 10 storm. Strong wind alright, but hardly cause for more damage than a few blown-off roof tiles, downed road signs and broken tree branches. Perhaps a few broken window panes. Power lines are supposed to withstand that kind of wind. regards, Hein

I know you mentioned tree branches but we've got big ones (trees, that is). When a 60mph wind blows through, it knocks down trees that are not in the best condition. These masses of several tons of wood fall upon power lines. You really got power lines that will withstand that?

You'd laugh your arse off if you'd see them, but I live in a densely populated country, where land is at a premium. We build power lines well away from trees. In most parts of the country that's easy, as most area is grassland, field, built-up area or open water. In built-up areas we use underground power lines. In wooded country the trees are chopped down at both sides of power lines, often with a motorway alongside. Problem solved. I can imagine that such measures are not economical in the USA. Last time we had a power outage due to damaged power lines was 12 December 2007, when an airforce helicopter crashed into one near Zaltbommel. regards, Hein

Now they've fixed that and it is not as romantic any more cooking by candlelight. The two pubs were always open and they were good moments. Lady Grendel 139 Posted November 25, 2010 Ho hum, here we go again, loads of snow everywhere, thankfully I'm on annual leave this week and not having to traipse through it to unearth a bus stop to even try to get to work, it may bugger up my social plans for this weekend if my friends can't make it through the damned stuff to even get here . On the positive side the little dog I have recently inherited is loving it, he was wary this morning but I took him out and made him face the 'strange white stuff', he had an absolute ball and bounced around in it like a mad thing, very comical to watch, I don't think he's ever seen proper snow before.
