The only one regularly mentioned as being in poor health is Beckenbauer but he's the highest profile.
drol 11,947 Posted October 21, 2023 Eastham has been in rough health for a long time. Likely not long left.

Deathrace 1,171 Posted October 21, 2023 This is the most recent photo I could find of Sigfried Held. His legs don't look good
Deathrace 1,171 Posted October 21, 2023 This was Wolfgang Weber a couple of years back
Deathrace 1,171 Posted October 21, 2023 Not many recent photos of Schulz (who looked very well in ones around 2018), Schnellinger (who is famously reclusive) or Beckenbauer who is thought to be very ill.

From Startiger, Schnellinger has been sending out "no more autograph requests" from all the letters that he received from 2020 onwards. Beckenbauer has been sending out printed signatures this year compared last year where it could take him 6 months to fulfill it.

In terms who will be the last player standing from the final XIs, unless there's something we don't know, you'd have to put Hurst roughly on a par with Overath and Weber (who are both younger than him). You'd probably say he's presently in better shape than Beckenbauer and Schnellinger and he has some years on Schultz who appears to have gone AWOL. Based on that recent photo of Held, I'd say Hurst currently has the edge on him too. It's still a big ask of Hurst given there's six of them.

Noticed Beckenbauer voted as part of the Legends panel for Kopa Trophy at the Ballon D’Or awards so must be well enough to vote.
Deathrace 1,171 Posted January 5 Sir Geoff Hurst is doing a "farewell" theatre tour January to March this year https://geoffhurst.com/events.html
wannamaker 1,407 Posted January 5 Hurst has always looked great so I doubt this means much.

Apart from the 1996 video there is another ruder (check names on shirts) version which he appears in decades ago which seems to be filmed in a car park. The fact that he's still doing one man theatre shows appears to suggest dementia is not an issue at least.

Bentrovato 1,088 Posted January 5 Surely this thread must be renamed "The Boy of 66" given Geoff is the only one left.

Three reserves are left as well in George Eastham, Terry Paine and Ian Callaghan. The later two played in earlier rounds of the tournament. 1

The Old Crem 3,606 Posted January 8 Plus there are also relatives of the players. Both of Bobby Moore’s wife’s are still alive (And notable enough for the DDP) and there are many other widows of players alive as well.

Deathrace 1,171 Posted January 16 I may have missed something but the only one of the five remaining 1966 West German final XI who I have seen making a TV tribute to Beckenbauer was this from Wolfgang Overath https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/aktuelle-stunde/overath-groesster-fussballer-den-wir-in-deutschland-hatten/wdr/Y3JpZDovL3Nwb3J0c2NoYXUuZGUvNGJhNjZkMjAtOTZmOS00OGE3LWExZWMtM2Q2NTNlNjhmM2Ni
