Ali Raymi, Yemeni junior flyweight, 41, explosion. http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/390403-mysterious-junior-flyweight-ali-raymi-killed-in-yemen

His first 21 fights ended in a knockout in the first round.

A pretty fascinating case study this guy, as said he had (at the time) the longest first round KO streak in boxing history, except all of his fights were against guys with records that were, at best, sketchy, and at worst non-existent. Allegedly a lot of his opponents were the same guy just fighting under a different name and wearing different coloured shorts.

We shouldn't have disparaged his name by flippantly linking him to steroids.

Floyd Mayweather says that his decision to retire was also triggered by the deteriorating health of his uncle and former trainer, Roger Mayweather, also a former boxing world champion:

I'm not sure if he'd obit in the UK, but American boxer Howard Davis Jr is suffering from stage IV lung cancer. Before turning pro, he won a gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Fascinating article about Emanuel Augustus, the "Drunken Master" of ESPN Friday Night Fights who was perhaps the finest 'have gloves, will travel' boxer of his generation. Floyd Mayweather says he was the toughest opponent he ever faced, his bout against Micky Ward is regarded as one of the best boxing matches of the modern era, and, inevitably, he ended up homeless and shot in a street incident. Health is, unsurprisingly, not great.

Sergio Caprari

Silver Medalist in the Featherweight Division at the 1952 Olympics is dead at age 83

I need something more than a link to deadfamous.com. Not a mention on the Web otherwise, for a medal winner that's odd. Granted James Messenger won an Oscar and disappeared almost unnoticed

October article on his website:

"Everybody dies, but few have the opportunity to accomplish a greater good through their death. Davis fights every day with spirit and tenacity, not just to hold death back longer but to inspire the lives of others."

Now I'm reading into it but who talks about impending death unless there is .... An impending death? Will he make 2016? I bet it's close.

Boxing news in June had him as terminally ill. Only thing keeping him off my DDP team at the moment is the concern about a UK obit. He's had no coverage whatsoever so far.

Just want to add that a recent HBO boxing telecast had them making a very long comment relating to Howard Davis, sounded like they knew he hadn't long till the final 10 count.

He's a gold medal boxer I'm not concerned about an obit. You can change people midstream? I gotta learn rules of all these DPs, someone should post them all in one link called DL Rules or summat.

No, but the game does start afresh on January 1st, so thoughts do move towards the 2016 team.

DDP - 20 names (plus 3 subs in case any die before 1st January), no changes throughout the year, picks need to have a mention as having died on one of about 20 obit sources. From loose memory, the American stars who don't get obits here tend to struggle to get them in the US too, but that's not a fast rule.

Deathrace - 20 names, if a pick dies on January 1st its 365 points, January 2nd 364 etc etc. First team to 2016 next year wins. MPFC runs it, and likes a swift fast winner, so will accept nearly any obit known to man, even a mention in passing in the horoscope section of an US newspaper. As reigning champion (somehow), I picked up points from the translation of a French parish newsletter. No changes as the game is expected to end ASAP.

Hares Pool - Deathray's game (in which you pick 25 celebs), much like the Deathrace but reverse. So you want to pick lingerers who might snuff it in December 2016.

Death by Years - Shauns game, you play this.

Hartlepool Deadlypool - Haven't a bloody clue. I just pick ten famous names each year and hope for the best!

Inverse Deadpool - Formerly run by Spade, it starts in mid-January when the Deathlist 50 and the Drop 40 (most popular picks on 2016's Derby Dead Pool) are known. You pick the 25 people on each you think will definitely not die, and were stupid picks. Then if they die, you lose points. The person with 0, or the closes to a positive score, wins.

That's the main ones (the DDP and the forum games) I play anyhow.

You should repost this in HowTo this is gold! Much thanks!

Actually it's worth a pinned thread of its own, IMO. Details of new games can be added as and when, and we would have them all together as a useful reference point.

Wish I'd have thought of that

Former cruiserweight boxing champion O’Neil “Supernova” Bell was shot to death during a robbery as he exited a public transit bus in Atlanta early on Wednesday, police said. An officer found Bell, 40, lying in the street, Atlanta police said. Another man nearby had also been shot but survived. The survivor, who was taken to a local hospital, told police he and Bell were shot after first being robbed when they stepped off the bus. Born in Jamaica and known as “Supernova” throughout his career, Bell was the undisputed cruiserweight champion in 2006, winning the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association and the International Boxing Federation titles after a 10th-round knockout of Jean-Marc Mormeck at Madison Square Garden in New York. Bell lost a unanimous decision to Mormeck the following year in France. Bell had a 27-4-1 career record, including 25 victories by knockout. His last appearance came in December 2011, when he beat Rico Cason in a first-round knockout.
