Here's a bit of a sneaky pick for someone.
Fresno State Univ football coach Jeff Tedford is stepping down from the job after three seasons at his alma mater.  Tedford tweeted: “It is with a heavy heart that, today, I am announcing that I am stepping down as the head coach here at Fresno State.”  It's been reported that Tedford was leaving for health reasons.

Well that IS a very interesting choice of words from the coach:  Tedford took a job as offensive coordinator in the NFL with Tampa Bay in 2014, but  stepped down from that job in the preseason with heart problems.

A good player I got to watch....

Former Detroit Lions safety Jimmy "Spiderman" Allen has passed away. Lions teammate Larry Lee revealed the sad news on social media on Saturday morning.  Allen was 67.

The safety spent four seasons in Detroit, from 1978-1981 after spending his first four seasons in Pittsburgh. In those four Lions seasons he picked off 24 passes, including a career-high nine in his final year. Allen earned his moniker for his sticky hands while playing behind the famed Silver Rush defensive line.  

Oh and most important of all:  He was the lead singer on the Lions’ 1980 recording of Another One Bites the Dust, the team’s theme song adopted from Queen.

Elbert Dubenion, a receiver who played key roles in the Buffalo Bills winning consecutive American Football League championships in the mid-1960s, has died. The Bills said Dubenion died Thursday.

Dubenion's 5,294 career-yards receiving and 35 touchdowns receiving still rank fourth on the team list. He also scored three touchdowns rushing, and one on kickoff return.

My DDP joker. Did really well to last two years past his glioblastoma diagnosis, but still definitely a sad loss. RIP

Yeah, even making it 24 months was a statistical surprise.  Had he made it to 2021 it would've been pretty shocking.  I have a family member that had the same affliction and he died 16 months after the diagnosis.  It's just a terrible disease.

Yeah, he did very well to make it this far with such a terrible illness. Even battlers like Gord Downie struggled to make it past 18 months.

I kind of prefer it that way, i.e. not mentioning "officially" how a member of the brand-new committee leads after a month.

That said, I would have enjoyed a "player of the month" nod. But then, let's see what happens if we keep up those daily shocks to the scoreboard. David Hagen please?

I can't recall so many changes at the top of the table in one month, even a January. I think it might be unprecedented.

Not sure if it's coincidence or what -- but nearly all those names are BIG names (not just cuz HOF players) cuz either coached or had incredible careers and name recognition staying power.  The only one I see that could have slid by was Gino Marchetti, who frankly I never heard of.  Not that I am the litmus test lol . 
Of the three noted NON OBITS, It's sad to see Charlie Sanders and Bob Sinclair fail to obit.  Sinclair was a character -- lost a bet so he had to eat a raw steak -- and ate his meat raw from that day forward.  Sanders was the best tight end (save it...) to ever play the game when he retired, and that's saying something for a shite Detroit Lion (but see: Sanders' teammate Alex Karras HOF nomination this year).  Doug Atkins another name I don't know, so I"m fine with him failing to QO.
