Bald rick 9 Posted October 1, 2007 I have recently been pondering the amount of negativity over in the Room 101 thread, and thought it was about time that we had somewhere to post those things we quite like. The title of the thread only came to me when I watched Stephen Fry on the BBC version of Room 101 this weekend, and he wanted to put Room 101 itself into Room 101, as it was all a bit negative. He proposed creating a Room Lovely, into which he put Macintosh computers and Kathy Burke. So, this is a place where you can list some of the things that you quite like.Eg, that gentle glugging sound that a wine bottle makes when you're pouring the first glass, but before any wine has come out. Also, when lorry drivers thank each other by indicating right, then left then right again after one has overtaken the other.
Monoclinic 39 Posted October 1, 2007 I'd like to put Room 101 into Room Lovely. Without that where else can one vent ones fury at the likes of Anthea Turner and Jamie Oliver? Also, whilst I'm at it can I put in the cold side of a pillow, laughing so much you cry, walking in fresh snow and eventually obtaining meaningful results from experiments that have become so tedious that after the nth repeat you have lost the will to live. Stop looking at me like that. Okay for my real entries for Room Lovely: The Chinese take away up the road. Telly programs on forensics (including CSI and Dexter). Modern telecommunications like mobile telephones and tinterweb (uhm... the internet).

The Philosopher 2 Posted October 1, 2007 [*]The Chinese take away up the road. I'm a fan of Chinese food but after reading a recent documentary I learned in a majority of restaurants 'the cola ' is fried. I don't trust my local Chinese restaurant near me. Do you trust yours? I advise the cheap way out which will not only save you money, but it will save you from heart attacks, strokes and diabetes. Order a Water! harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,688 Posted October 1, 2007 Sky's Gillette Soccer Saturday, with the godlike Jeff Stelling. Everything has to fit around it, luckily Lady FN is quite a fan of it too.

I never thought I'd be peas-in-a-pod with Saturday-afternoon couch spuds 'arry and the missus, but (when I had Sky, which I don't these days) I used to wait with bated breath (almost, twixt-spliff) for the Hartlepool score. I recall when they got sent down (forget which season, it was fairly recently), and the gradually-unfolding drama of Jeff Stelling's personal tragedy was the best entertainment on telly for years! And, whilst I'm here and vaguely on-topic, Soccer AM. Lovely.

Make that a quartet. Stelling, all by himself, made a relatively household name of an obscure Scottish lower division striker in Kenny Deuchar. I also watched Soccer Saturday to see if we'd be promoted to the Championship vs Leicester in 2005. I well remember Stelling's introduction... "There's been a crucial goal at the Walkers Stadium..." Ray Stubbs, on the other hand, should be banished to the hell that is Room 101's dungeon for inept, fat, incompetent smug w**nkers.

The average American sports fan cannot quite grasp the concept of Soccer Saturday. The basic premise is, "Oh no, we won't be showing any of the action, not for several hours." And it's not even live commentary of any of the matches. It's a bunch of ex players, many of whom are only semi-literate, watching the games on telly and then shouting about what you've just missed. Right up there with golf on the radio and ball-by-ball updates on Test cricket as the lamest means of following a sport.

(mum's the word) As one of life's Skyless minions all this Jeff Stelling talk is over my head. Spare a thought for us terrestrials. It's like a clique within a clique. It's a bit sad in fact that any TV programme should feature in a thread about the best things in life. I haven't felt so excluded since we were the last family down our street to get BBC2 and I had to listen to everybody else going on about Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. "Very eenteresting, but stupid!" I even know the catch phrases but never saw it. How sad is that?
