Death Impends 7,969 Posted January 12, 2008 Carl Karcher of Carl's Jr. fame dead. I believe his death marks the first person to die this year who was picked on DDP in 2007, but not 2008.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 12, 2008 I posted this in the DDP thread already, but she deserves a mention here too: "Vampira" actress Maila Nurmi has bitten the dust.
Godot 149 Posted January 12, 2008 Mikhail Mininthe man, who raised the USSR flag, the banner of Victory, over Germany’s Reichstag in May of 1945, has died at the age of 85 Yep. Thát soldier. Not the soldier in the picture. If you read the link it says: "The famous photo does not show Minin but a Georgian soldier. It was not taken at the actual event." A bit like the Iwo Jima picture although in that case it was the men who raised the flag that received all the subsequent publicity.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 12, 2008 Rod Allen I know Phantom posted this yesterday but was his condition reported widely before this? He'd have been a popular pick if more of us had known.

Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted January 13, 2008 Bloody idiots. I recall mentioning to the missus last week that mountain rescue were warning people not to climb Hellvellyn as conditions were extremely dangerous. We climbed it in spring, and that was fairly risky, seeing as I'm no expert. While theres snow up there, theres always quite a risk, and to totally ignore expert advice is just ridiculous. Let's round up a few of our picks and take them climbing in the Lake District.
