Today is the 25th anniversary of the death of Trevor Howard.

Probably best remembered for Brief Encounter and for playing a host of 'stiff-upper-lip' British types, he also starred as Sir Henry in Viv Stanshall's Sir Henry at Rawlinson End.

Billy Tipton, who managed a 34-year-long career as a jazz bandleader and a string of relationships without anyone realising he was actually a man, died today in 1989. His adopted son only discovered that his "father" was actually an adoptive mother when paramedics stripped Tipton's clothes while trying to save his life.
