I need one of these shirts.

I’m sure I got mine from Etsy or similar but I can’t find it, found another one on Amazon here.

Is a problem for those of us without Amazon accounts. They should sell them more widely so even more people can access them!

I've just noticed that Amazon has increased the minimum spend for getting free shipping from £25 to £35.

Had a shit week with the rule of 3 certainly in play.

1:My best friend has been diagnosed with having a large tumour on the base of his spine.Awaiting further tests.Only 28.

2:A friend well I guess you could call her that.We met on a dating site hit it off but ultimately never went anywhere.Clearly health issues on her part were in play at the time (Couple of months back).Found out she has been diagnosed with cancer this week. She has 3 children and only just turned 33.

3:A colleague of mine and good friend  has been referred to cancer specialists due to sudden and profound bleeding and weight loss.Seeing said specialist in less than 2 weeks.Only 46.

All in all it seems doom and gloom this end of the woods right now.

Just watched all of Douglas Is Cancelled on ITVX (4 episodes). While it has River Song and Amy Pond fighting that is only interesting thing. Not some of Moffat's best work.

Mixed reviews, but seemingly more bad than good. It is (according to one respected critic) about 3-4 years too late to be relevant. Pity, because with that cast, writer and production company, it has everything it needs to be good.

I think I read somewhere that he wanted it as a stage production and I can see that considering it's based around....5 main characters. It would work well as a small West End production for sure.

Karen Gillan is good in it though.

Off to one of my best friend's wedding today.

In the inimitable words of @time, nobody die!

Off to another friend's wedding reception this afternoon.

I'll be back eventide, however may not be in any fit state to deal with much here.

Or there might be an early finish. Anyway, hopefully a quiet afternoon on the death/obit front. ;)

This topic has tennis in the title so it feels appropriate.

Best moments of Wimbledon 2024 final aftermath:

- Annabelle Croft declaring Carlos Alcaraz as "hot" and then trying valiantly to pretend it wasn't a Freudian slip and she was actually referring to his skill.

- Carlos Alcaraz being asked a question and clearly having no idea what was asked, but laughing his way through it anyway.

Carlos Alcaraz, I fucking love you. Adorable, skilful, and tremendously handsome.

I woke up this morning with (what I thought) were insect bites all over my body, and have spent the day cleaning my entire bedroom and bed only to be informed that we've started using a new laundry detergent and it's actually that a rash caused by me being allergic to it. So now I've unnecessarily wasted the day cleaning and will have to wash all of my clothes to get the detergent out.

I don't have the patience to wait ten years. If I do not succeed within this tax year, I will be resorting to more frowned-upon techniques including, but not limited to, blackmail; hypnotism; drugs; bribery and mass elimination of alternative candidates.

Update on this: I seem to have made some progress, though he's still hesitant about where he sits on the sexuality scale. Might not need to eliminate quite as many people as I originally anticipated, but the other four options are still being considered for now.

Well look, let's work through your options.

Blackmail: Most effective only if he's done something terrible, which kind of takes the shine off him a bit really.

Hypnotism: Student of psychology here. Hypnosis doesn't work.

Drugs: James Cleverly rather ruined the PR of date rape drugs when he made jokes about them.

Bribery: Costs you money and him self-respect.

Consider option 5:

Patience: Annoying but often necessary. Relax. Stick with it.

Oh the chance would certainly be nice...

(there's zero truth in my employing any of these techniques, in case anyone mistakes me for actually being a psychopath...or at least more of one than I admit to myself)

Been a tough couple of weeks. Insomnia properly has a hold of me at the moment. I’ve had not much more than a night’s worth of sleep over the past week. It’s annoying the sweet suffering fuck out of me, and it’s making my work harder and my ADHD worse. And I really fucking want a cig. Gahhhh. Never fucking easy, is it?

Really wish you the best @TQR

Of course I'm not familiar with your exact situation. But I could imagine stress / a busy daily life being a possible factor for your head not getting in a relaxed state?

Hopefully you can find a solution to it soon, and if it helps for you, talk about it with friends or others close to you. When I have some occasional problems, mental health related or the likes, writing about it also helps for me. Anyway, I hope you can sleep better soon and please let us know if you need someone to talk to.

Thank you! Much appreciated. I have taken on a lot of work - much of which I can and have been doing from home, and much of which I really enjoy. I’m lucky enough to have that, and my OH who puts up with me despite having a stressful enough life himself. Insomnia comes and goes for me, has done for years. I’m just really looking forward to the ‘go’ bit. It’s been in the fucking post.

Love that writing helps you! It helps me too.

I know you might disagree with me on this, but one of the best pieces of advice I have ever known is to never take work home with you. I love my job too - it pays me well, I get to work on a lot of interesting things and I'm genuinely never bored. However, home is home for me - I don't respond to work emails or do anything related to work after I have finished for the day. Sometimes I might work a bit after my official hours to get something done, but as soon as I land home that's it. I always change my clothes after work, even despite being able to dress virtually how I please every day. Even on the days I work from home, I wear formal attire for work and informal attire after work. These systems have definitely allowed me to find a work-life balance that I enjoy, and given me more time for leisure activities that I find relaxing and which contribute to my improved mental health.

No matter how much you love your job, it shouldn't massively eat away at your personal time. It causes problems even if they go unnoticed for a long period of time. Also, make sure you're spending enough on yourself - buy yourself things on a whim, book yourself a nice massage, and do things that you love. My mental health and ability to sleep well got significantly better since I stopped restricting myself so much and spent a lot more time on just being myself.

You've plenty of support here too - if you ever want an extra person to talk to, I'm always keen to expand my network. I'm told I give good advice (though I seldom see people actually taking it!)

Thanks for your kindness too!

I won't go into the ins and outs of my work but to say I have multiple things on the go. It's varied, flexible, rewarding, exciting and honestly, it gives me life. It all came about so quickly and there's a lot to do but it's a way of filling in time gaps. I can't bear having nothing 'interesting' to do, see, listen to or think about at any given moment (probs an ADHD thing) - it was often like that back when I just did the one job, and it absolutely strangled my mind. Nowadays, I've never been better mentally, but it just means that when insomnia bites, it's more noticeable. It'll pass soon. It does eventually.

Luckily, for nights where sleep just isn't happening, my OH would sleep soundly through a raging tsunami, so I can writhe around or type or stream whatever shite on my laptop without disturbing him :D

At least take the last bit of advice, then. Spend more money on yourself. This is advice I give to everyone. Work gives you money and you should use it. Far too many people refuse themselves things that are "too expensive", when what they really mean is "it's more than I really feel like I should spend in one go". Sod that.

I am somewhat intrigued what work you do.

The happy consequence of having my bedroom window open a lot in this heat is that I now have the most beautiful orb weaver spider housing itself inside my room by the window.

I feel much safer with this critter there because I cannot abide those nasty huge flies that get in at this time of ths year. It's nice when nature solves its own problems.
