Watching the BBC documentary about Queenie and Philip's 70th wedding anniversary. Interview in it with the 97 year old Commodore Keith Evans. Served on the Hood, various war service, but also confidante in the 30s/40s to Philip, and apparently one of the only people to know he planned to ask (not yet Queenie) Libby to marry him ahead of time. Lucid speaker and looks good for his advanced age, but a cert Telegraph obit when he goes.

Pic with his old buddy from earlier this year.

Marcello Citano, an Italian resistance fighter during World War II who helped free Florence in 1944 and who spent a lifetime organizing anti-Fascist gatherings, has died.  He was 91.

To express a neutral point of view from Italy, who the fuck he is? Only obits he got are local, he was definitely too young to be a Resistance fighter, and his life was spent as a common person.

Would have to do more research to find out if he was an underage soldier or a civilian resistor.  If the latter, he'd not be in the correct thread.  I've never heard of him either but fame is a relative thing. He appeared in multiple searches when seeking out info.

Edit:  Read more in the link about him.  Was part of the Garibaldi brigade, a volunteer military unit.  That makes him a World War II soldier.  Gets back to the 'fame' thing as to whether he's worthy of inclusion in a Deathlist thread.

Before the war everyone in Italy was a fascist. After the war everyone was a resistance fighter. Even my father says he was a resistance fighter and he was barely 15 when the war ended. I guarantee there were very very few real Resistance fighter in Italy and many of their actions caused great sufferings to common people. Citano (surname is from Campania, but he is billed from Tuscany) was completely completely unknown outside of his village. Can't see how he deserves a mention here.

Mary Ellis, who delivered planes from the factory to their airfields during WWII, has died aged 101.

The story originally described her as the last of the female pilots but they've changed it to point out that another three are still alive

Could go in many threads, but in here she goes.

Anne Olivier Bell at 102.

Was the widow of Quentin Bell, part of the Bloomsbury Group and mother to Virginia Nicholson and Cressida Bell.

Was part of the Monuments Men crowd, who tried to get back the Art stolen by Adolf.
