Father Brown 209 Posted May 12 It’s been an awful weekend for the contest’s reputation but music won in the end. Congratulations Switzerland

I voted for my winner, plus a vote for Israel just to piss off the lunatics. Andrew Neil watched it for the first time this year and voted 20 times for Israel, suspect many others of that ilk have done the same. You could see this coming a mile off after the Italian semifinal vote leaked. Anyway, thrilled for Switzerland - they got my vote. Disappointed Olly got 0 from the public - that seems incredibly harsh; as always the case there was much crappier songs that did way better. At least we were left hand side of the board, if even for a moment. Reminder to Andrew Neil when the time comes: you can only vote once in a General Election my lad!

For all the noise and chaos, the show itself was actually quite enjoyable and the winner had a great song and a brilliant stage presence. A remarkably successful night in our house: I voted for the winner, dad voted for 2nd and mum got 4th. 12 months for the world to calm down before we do it all again.

I saw way too many 'progressive' people boycotting it and foresaw the vote being taken over by supporters of a certain country. That's why I voted for Switzerland, Croatia and Ireland twice each. Also because I ACTUALLY LIKED THE SONGS.
drol 11,953 Posted May 12 I liked Croatia very much. As much as I disliked Italy.
Charles De Gaulle 484 Posted May 12 The whole 20 votes being allowed rule and people being able to vote before all the songs were performed are incredibly suspicious changes. Highly suspicious that they would bring in such a system that allows 20 votes rather than one vote. It would create a lot of variables that would make judging the contest a lot more cumbersome than the simpler method of one vote for one person. The voting seems to have been set up in a way that encouraged vote brigading.

Not so much a rigged vote as a statement vote. If everybody had accepted the fact that Israel were competing, sucked it up and got on with it without the insults and trolling, I am fairly confident her average song would’ve ended up middle of the leaderboard. But people wanted to make it political, and there we can see the result.

I’d add an avi picture but the forum link isn’t working (at least on iPhone) at the moment

And why would the EBU want Israel to do well when they hosting a few years ago was chaotic enough dealing with the religious parties in the country. (They had to reluctantly move it to Tel Aviv despite Netanyahu wanting it in Jerusalem but it would have been impossible to do so and follow the Shabbat rules’

Now that I've seen the whole thing, I'm not surprised. The staging was dirty and sordid, and verging on the pornographic. The song was decent, but he sang it poorly. His voice was weak and out of tune. He thinks he's so sexy He's so preoccupied with showing off and being edgy that there's little effort put into the actual performance of the song. There's some hilarious comments on this youtube video of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0_FdJqyQW0 Even gay men are saying they didn't like it.
Philheybrookbay1 247 Posted May 13 As a Eurovision fan currently in Greece on holiday the UK entry was met with almost stunned silence by the Greeks. It wasn't just the song which was poor, but the sexualisation of the staging. Greeks were literally shaking their heads. And here's the problem. We've got to get away from the idea that it has be shocking. All the songs which are good had hooks- Ireland, Croatia and to point Switzerland. The Croatian song has been everywhere here this week playing in the pubs, bars etc. If we have a song like in 2022 which is sung well, staged well we can do it.

The Old Crem 3,605 Posted June 4 Norway seems to have suggested it will withdraw from the 2025 contest if Israel is not banned. I still think if Israel is banned political reactions in the UK will see the BBC having to do the opposite.
