Comedians & Comedy Writers

Recommended Posts

I bought Barry Cryer's autobiography, little more than a series of anecdotes, on CD and listened to it last week. Hancock was his agent, it never occured to me he was still alive this year. Cryer, Sykes and Norden must be starting to feel very lonely.

On the upside, plenty of old chums waiting for them :angel5:

John Howard Davies, former BBC Head of Comedy and director/producer of many sitcoms, has died. Also saw off Benny Hill at Thames TV, I believe.

I was just waiting to see who'd be the first to spot that one.

A big loss for comedy.

Hein

Saw that about an hour ago, but had to get my daughter on the school bus then couldn't find the proper thread for it.

Loved Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

Wasn't a great fan of Allo Allo, but did enjoy Gordon Kaye's performance as Elwood P. Dowd in a stage production of Harvey at Wimbledon Theatre. He starred alongside Frank Thornton.

Used to get Don Estelle setting up a stall each Christmas at the Arndale Center in Wandsworth desperately trying to sell his albums

Note this picture oif David Croft and Jimmy Perry taken just 4 months ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Croft_and_Perry.jpg As you can see Croft looks well and no-one would suspect he was so close to the end.His friend Perry looks much the same condition and is just a year younger. His friends death will probably have a terrible effect on him too,so can I suggest including Jimmy Perry on the 2012 list?

The co-writer of the long-running sitcom 'Allo 'Allo, David Croft, has died at the age of 89.

His family said "He pissed away in his slop."

Roy Walker apparently suffered a mild stroke a few days ago. It's good but he's not dead. Maybe one to watch?

97-year-old American comedian Irwin Corey has only ever bagged one mention on these forums, but he's usually good for a handful of picks by American/people googling for "old celebrities" on the DDP. Anyway, despite his advanced years he's still well enough to panhandle for charity on the streets of New York.

American comedian Patrice O'Neal, probably better known in the UK for popping up in Chapelle's Show and Arrested Development, has suffered a stroke after battling withd diabetes for many years. He "may not recover fully".

That is a shame he is one of the best stand up comics out there.
