As requested by @drol...

Here are the living subjects of Carl Van Vechten (1880–1964), photographed between 1932 and 1964:

Adele Addison (wiki, b. 1925) American lyric soprano

Harry Belafonte (wiki, b. 1927) American singer-songwriter

Frederick Buechner (wiki, b. 1926) American novelist and poet
Roy Eaton (wiki, b. 1930) American painter
Richard T. Gibson (b. 1931) American journalist and activist. No Wiki page, interviewed several years ago, appears to live in the UK now.
Reri Grist (wiki, b. 1932) American coloratura soprano
Afrika Hayes (b. 1933) American soprano and music educator, daughter of tenor and composer Roland Hayes. No Wiki page.
Leo Holder (b. 1958) American graphic artist, son of Carmen de Lavallade (below) and Geoffrey Holder. No Wiki page, still active though.
John Terry Hornblow (b. 1931) American son of producer Arthur Hornblow Jr. No Wiki page, living according to the U.S. residency records.
Marilyn Horne (wiki, b. 1934) American mezzo-soprano opera singer
Raymond Jackson (b. 1933) American concert pianist. No Wiki page, personal website here.
Margie Lou King Barab (b. 1932) American singer and actress. No Wiki page, living according to the U.S. residency records.
George Lamming (wiki, b. 1927) Barbadian novelist, essayist and poet
Philip Langner (b. 1926) American producer, son of Lawrence Langner. No Wiki page, wife's obit from a few years ago says he's alive.
Carmen de Lavallade (wiki, b. 1931) American dancer and choreographer, widow of the great Geoffrey Holder.
Robert Morse (wiki, b. 1931) American actor and singer
Peter Perenyi (b. 1940) American son of Eleanor Perenyi. No Wiki page because not notable in his own right, gave an interview last year.
Leontyne Price (wiki, b. 1927) American soprano
George Shirley (wiki, b. 1934) American operatic tenor

I went through his entire collection here to get this info. There may be one or two more living subjects, but some are just too obscure to track down a fate for.

When I get time, I'll also look at the earlier portraits of Allan Warren, which consist of mainly British subjects – royalty, aristocracy, actors and writers etc.

Soprano Margaret Tynes, who was portrayed by van Vechten, dead at 104.
