He began as a sports photographer, became a picture editor and then moved to portrait photography. He won sports photographer of the year 4 times and was picture editor of the year 6 times. He documented his local area, centred around Ashington, Northumberland, and had recently become a trustee of the Ashington Group, conservers of the Pitman Painters. There may be one or two more living subjects, but some are just too obscure to track down a fate for.
