RolandDeschain 91 Posted November 27, 2019 I 'had a feeling' that he would probably go not too long after his 80th to be honest. Maybe it was his goal to survive his 70s? 10 years (even when the cancer isn't supposed to be as aggressive as some) with cancer can't have been great to live with but the treatments he had certainly kept him going and the interviews he gave right near the end showed he wasn't suffering as much as some people do.

CoffinLodger 1,248 Posted November 27, 2019 Goodbye to a deathlist legend. The Aussie equivalent of Clive Dunn has finally fallen. We salute you!
maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted November 27, 2019 Him and Miller on the same day - intellectual lefties etc. D'ya think the impending Tory majority and their belief in a Brexit calamity finally did for them?

Whilst he identified as being on the "left", I see him as more of a centrist. He was always critical of the socialist/commie types, supported the war in Iraq and was a climate change skeptic. To be fair, his views were all over the place. A hard one to place. He liked to think for himself, that made him unique. RIP.

gcreptile 10,963 Posted November 27, 2019 Ah, I was always waiting for that "Now I go gently into that long night" kind of announcement as soon as his treatment stopped working. But in the end, he had no more words. RIP though, I only knew him through the DeathList, but he was quite entertaining.

That is what made him interesting. He was a contrarian in some respects.Always politically centrist but not dogmatically so and could always say something the other side would find contentious. He was never partisan or dogmatically and radically centrist as so many of the bores that write today's columns are. Sean 6,309 Posted November 27, 2019 Sad to see him go a very interesting man to read and listen to.Astounded he lasted this long.Like Dunn Zsa Zsa and Biggs I think he will be quoted on this site for years to come.A great tease.I wonder if his dry sense of humour and morbidity would have made him chuckle at the Deathlist. R.I.P Clive.
Vinegar Tits 605 Posted November 27, 2019 Sad news, he was great. Mind you, to say he'd been very ill for years and with a dire early prognosis, he had a good innings. RIP.

I believe they were good friends. After hearing of Miller's death this morning I saw this brilliant interview he did with Clive James. Very sad to hear about both of them. YoungWillz 21,024 Posted November 27, 2019 Just home after a busy day. Caught it on TV this afternoon. Always objectively laughing with the silliness of the world while at the same time absolutely loving the world. A top class thinker who was always one of us. Nothing he did was without substantiating and affirming our own idiocy and our own brilliance. I'd like to thank him for making me laugh, making me think, making me weep. Probably simultaneously. RIP.

Vinegar Tits 605 Posted June 24, 2020 Sad news if true. I remember her from Channel 4's 'Manhattan Cable' (a few years before Clive James) and she was always hilarious. I also saw her live in Sunderland in 1995(?) - fab, of course, and my friend Mark got a kiss from her which he's never quite lived down. 1
