Deathrace 1,171 Posted October 7 Makes Paul Breitner the last person alive to have scored in the 1974 World Cup Final. There's still one goalscorer from 1962 (Amarildo), two from 1966 (Hurst and Weber) and three from 1970 (Gerson, Jairzinho and Boninsegna) still going.

That’s the 11th Dutch player of the 74-78 era to die, most of them died before 76. I find it tremendous, whereas Germany for example only has 6 dead players from 74 WC. Any idea how to explain that ? @Whitehouse ?

Other prominent Dutch players of the era-Barry Hulshoff, Jan Van Beveren and Willy Van Der Kuijlen all died before their 75th birthday. Only 2 starters from Ajax's 1971 European cup team are left: the goalie Heinz Stuy(born in Germany) and winger Sjaak Swart. The used substitutes Arie Haan and Horst Blankenburg(a German) are both still alive. ALL of the Panathinaikos starting 11 are alive if Wikipedia is to be believed.

Johnny Rep in ICU after a heart attack. Currently waiting for a pacemaker, so might be fine. For the time being, at least. He has had some other health issues in recent times too, like several hernia repairs, difficulty with walking and sold all his trophies, kits and other collectibles from his career because he needed the money.

Paraguay also have players that are not listed as dead but we don't know their status. Agustin Miranda Jorge Romero Eligio Insfran Luis Santos Silva Jorge Romero probably died off radar. I'm waiting for social media to announce Eligio Insfran's death. There's lack of background information for Agustin Miranda and Luis Santos to be identified and their name is very common.

I have sufficient evidence to say he is now dead. I have found a Naver version of Wikipedia, which Koreans use more than Wiki and Google. In the article for 1954 World Cup, a TV series episode discussing about this World Cup dated 12 January 2022 has stated that all the players are deceased. On the footnote says that Park Jae-Sung is the last surviving player and died on 12 March 2015. The last time Park was mentioned is on a 2014 article where he is in hospital bed.

Thanks for having another try at this. Here's the problem (and why a death can't be added to his Wiki) – 1) as you identified yourself the source in question is another type of wiki. Other wikis are not reliable sources. 2) there's another 2014 news article talking about him, his family, his current health here. It was updated in 2016, and no mention of his death was added – in the eyes of Wiki that is a reliable news source and it suggests he was alive in 2016, even though he had most certainly died by the time of the 2016 update.
