Who is the oldest living World Cup coach? Could it be Ignacio Trelles, who coached Mexico in the 1962 and 1966 tournaments? http://www.jornada.u...portes/a36n1dep

Wow, thanks for that pic....... I think I'll eat my food later now...

Although there is an argument this could be within the Time Added thread, to be fair there is 8,000,000 threads about music, so why not two about football.

In time, I& will try and do all the pre-1962 surviving players, but for now, I will round up the 1950 players and pre-1938 - of which there is only one, Rene Llense, who is near 100. He was however a squad player who never played.

Deid.....

The Brazil 1958 World Cup team are dropping like flies.

Eight months ago, there were seven of them still alive. Now there are just three.

Since last July, we've seen Djalma Santos, Nilton Santos, Gilmar and now Bellini pass on.

The remaining survivors are Zito, Mario Zagallo and of course, Pele.

Edited 1954 & 1958 for Boskov's death and added Jardine (thanks Charon) to the 1978 early losses. I say early, but it's 36 years ago now...

I forgot Jardine was there in 1978 - he's the 3rd of the 1974 team after Holton and Bremner to die.

Hell, Just found out today that old Rene has passed. Myself and team 'Picktons Pork Pies' have him in our joint Theme team!! That 4 points from Rene would take us to within 2 points of the overall lead.

Confident with this being a World Cup year that mention of his passing will appear in one of the valid Deadpool obituary outlets sometime during the summer.

Jorge Romo Fuentes at 80, which is apt.

Played for Mexico v Brazil in the '50 + '54 WC's, and Mexico are playing Brazil right now in the WC.

Colombia are doing well in this World Cup and I'm sure some of their living veterans are enjoying a run of good form at last. But Antonio Rada, one of Colombia's goalscorers in the 1962 World Cup won't be, as he died at the start of the month before the World Cup began. http://www.futbolred.com/mundial-brasil-2014/noticias/previomundial2014/mundial-brasil-murio-antonio-rada-heroe-del-empate-con-rusia-en-el-mundial-del-62/14063355

Horacio Troche, of the 1962 and 1966 Uruguay squad, dead at 79. He's probably best known for popping Uwe Seeler on the side of the head in the '66 quarter final.

I'm going through the lists as I'm not at all convinced a lot on there are still alive - but I'd like to find something to prove it. One of the non-players in 1950 mentioned, Ervin Katnic, actually died aged 58, in 1979. http://nogomet.lzmk.hr/clanak.aspx?id=1017

If I was to trust my instincts and remove who I think is more than likely dead, then the totals will be quite different, signifcantly lower me thinks.

Another 1950 non-playing "survivor", Manuel Machuca of Chile, died in 1985, 29 years ago now, aged 61 - he didn't even get to see the Maradona Hand of God, let alone the 2014 tournament. I've updated his English Wikipedia page. Suspect more Spanish-speaking players will be removed accordingly soon.
